While my focus is primarily Indiana, I saw several talented ladies from Illinois as well, as I attended the Run 4 Roses Classic, the USJN Premier Showcase, the Adidas Gauntlet Finale, and Under Armour’s Session II. Below is a look at members of the Class of 2020 who I thought stood out when I was able to see them.
Capria Brown, 5-9 G, Schlarman Academy, Example Sports Wolfpack UAA
Capria has been a known talent for several years, and it’s fun to see her again now that she has gotten stronger and finished growing. She is an explosive scorer who is great off the bounce. She handles it well, creates space with the dribble, but she also goes by defenders with sheer ease. She is strong enough now that she can finish through contact at the basket, but she’s also shooting it with more touch from the perimeter. I would like to see her play with as much of a sense of urgency at the defensive end as she does scoring it, because I think she has the physical tools to be an elite defender. She was originally committed to Xavier, but she reopened her recruitment with the coaching change.
Addie Budnik, 6-1 F, Highland Park H.S., All In-Truding
Addie was really good during the game I saw, and she must have had an outstanding week, because I saw her name appear several times on social media as having new colleges interested in her. She is a wiry strong front-liner with really good length, she plays with a nice motor, and she tries to play extremely physical and is a tough kid considering her lean frame. Addie showed solid skill facing the basket to about 17-feet, though she also looked comfortable around the perimeter. She is very good in the mid-post, she can consistently knock down the mid-range jumper, but she’s also solid with her back to the basket. I think her game can quickly improve over the next year with added strength.
Halle Douglass, 6-2 W, Lake Forest H.S., All In-Truding
Halle is a tall, long, and wiry strong wing prospect. She is a very fluid and smooth athlete who seemingly glides around the floor with ease. She possesses solid ball skill, she handles it well in transition, and they even ask her to run offense a lot of the time on this All In team. She can create offense for others or slice to the rim, but she will need to learn how to play lower to the ground to protect her dribble a little better. She probably scores it best in the mid-post or on pull-ups, but she does have some touch around the perimeter. Defensively, she’s probably going to defend a lot of ‘3s’ and maybe even some undersized ‘4s’. There is a lot to like about her game though, and I don’t think she has come close to her ceiling just yet.
Camryn Feddern, 5-11 F, Pontiac Township H.S., Illinois Pizazz Green
I was able to see this Illinois Pizazz team play for nearly a half in Louisville, and Camryn was someone who stood out to me during that timeframe. She is a strong, physical, but solid on-the-floor athlete who plays with some toughness and good energy. She showed very good ball skill for a prospect with her size and strength, plus she seemed very comfortable around the perimeter and in the mid-post. She looked to shoot it right away on the catch when open and in rhythm, which tells me she’s used to taking/making shots. I thought she had very good touch at all levels, solid shot mechanics, and she played with poise and confidence.
Kylie Feuerbach, 6-0 W, Sycamore H.S., All Iowa Attack EYBL
Kylie is a very interesting and intriguing wing prospect. She has really good length, she has solid wiry strength, and she’s a fairly smooth and fluid athlete in all directions. She can handle the ball and run offense like a point forward at times, she can slash to the basket and score, and she is a capable perimeter shooter as well. What I’m most impressed with in her game is how cerebral she is, especially how hard she plays. She doesn’t seem to force action much, and she is always under control, even when playing fast. She has already verbally committed to Iowa State University.
Isis Fitch, 6-1 C, Victor J. Andrew H.S., Illinois Elite BlueStar
Isis is a strong, physical, but athletic big with really good length. She definitely looks the part of a true post, and she is impressive in how she runs the floor, gets low and physical when establishing position, and she battles hard defensively as well. In the Spring when I saw her, she struggled to finish around the basket. But last week she was much better, and she was finishing with either hand. Her college interest has really improved, because for as strong as she already is, I think she can be even more powerful and very imposing in college. If she can continue developing a versatile low-post game, she could be scary.
Halle Idowu, 5-11 W, Harold L. Richards H.S., Example Sports Wolfpack UAA
Halle is a very talented forward prospect who I am hopeful to see again at some point. She has really good length, a wiry strong frame, and she is a gliding athlete who moves well in all directions, plus she has nice bounce to her. Halle plays with a lot of energy and makes several plays each game because of her athleticism. Offensively, she is more of a slashing scorer right now, but she does have a little touch outside and should be able to turn herself into a consistent shooter quickly. Defensively, she gambles a little bit for steals, but with her length and quickness she can become a very good on-ball defender and an elite trapper.
Mya Johanson, 6-1 F, Herscher H.S., Example Sports Wolfpack UAA
When I first saw Mya back in the Spring, I was really intrigued with her skill and understanding of the game. She is a long, fairly fluid and athletic, and skilled face-up ‘4’ who can play just about anywhere on the floor. She has good touch that extends to the perimeter, she is a really nice passer, and she’s a matchup problem in the mid-post because of her passing, shooting, and ability to put it on the floor and finish at the basket. She probably does need to get stronger before college, but she isn’t a back-to-the-basket post. I also think she does a nice job of defending out on the wing at 6-1.
Emily Klaczek, 5-9 PG, William Fremd H.S., All In-Truding
Last week was my first time seeing Emily play, but based on what college coaches were telling me, she was playing as well as she has in front of them. That was backed up this week as she picked up a few offers. Emily is a fairly long prospect with solid athleticism in all directions, and she is always in control. Her pace and ability to sense tone were really good when I saw her, and she just has a natural feel for the position. She wasn’t looking to be a big scorer, but she did make the couple of shots I saw her take. I liked her energy/motor and her willingness to defend in a disciplined manner.
Danyel Middleton, 5-9 F, Bolingbrook H.S., Mac Irvin Fire Godfather
Danyel has quickly become one of my favorite non-Indiana kids to watch. She plays with so much energy and such a high motor that it’s almost infectious. She flies around the floor and makes plays because of it. But Danyel is also a talented athlete who can run and jump, she has an athletic frame, and she has really good length. She needs a little polish and discipline to her game at both ends of the floor, but she is so much fun to watch because she gives it everything she has each possession. She has already drawn her share of Division-I interest, and if she can learn how to change speeds, plus when to be explosive versus when to be patient and efficient, she could be a great prospect for the next level.
