This final article will focus on the remaining 2021s, 2022s, and 2023s. I do want to reiterate that Andale players are not included due to my not being able to catch one of their games. I look forward to sharing information about the team at some point in the future.
Halstead 2021 Power Forward/Center Kareena Gerber elevates for three against Hutchinson at the Hutchinson Community College’s team camp.Kareena Gerber, 6’1″, PF, Halstead, 2021 – A physically imposing and fast athlete Gerber can score inside and from the perimeter. She will often overpower opponents on the boards as well. Her game is still developing and opposing bigs exposed areas she needs to work on. Consistently opponents were able to get her up in the air with a head fake, especially anywhere near the paint. Bigs were also able to easily catch passes around the paint because she always played behind, rather than challenging passing lanes into, them. Opponents would then go under or drop step around her in the lane in either direction. Improving would prevent bigs from taking a couple dribbles into the lane, to draw offside defense, and kicking to an open perimeter shooter. Gerber can score inside with both hands in a variety of ways. However, if an interior move gets stuffed she always relies on going to her right. A couple bigs walled up strong on the first move, then defended the move to her right. When she plugs those big holes, look out.
Chapman 2023 Maya Kirkpatrick readies to block out a Nickerson player at Hutchinson Community College’s team camp.Maya Kirkpatrick, 5’6″, W, Chapman, 2023 – Kirkpatrick is a capable scorer, especially off the medium range jumper. She has ball skills to slash across the lane and pull up for the jumper or continue to finish on the other side of the basket. Athletic with good transition speed her defense should improve as she get stronger.
Hutchinson 2022 forward Jaycilyn Moriasi.Jaycilyn Moriasi, 5’8″, F, Hutchinson, 2022 – Undersized for the position Moriasi, who also backs up the center position, is unafraid to challenge bigger post players and has a strong build in which to do so. That build and competitiveness enables her to finish with contact. To ramp up development she needs to improve her vertical. Quickness also needs to improve so she can guard quicker shooting guards and wings.
Ava Perrier, 6’1″, PF/C, Eureka, 2021 – Perrier is difficult to handle because of how physical she can be inside. She posts very strongly and really challenged the other bigs in camp. She runs the floor well and is a very long 6’1″.
Eureka 2022 Power Forward Ava Perrier awaits the start of an inbounds playChazni Ptacek, 5’7″, G, Eureka, 2021 – Ptacek handles and protects the ball very well. She also is very quick to the basket, can elevate, and showed three point range.
