Nearly 800 teams were in attendance at the downtown convention center that contained 72 basketball courts. Dozens of Elite teams and players took part in the event, but here are a few of the Top PG’s that I noticed from teams located in Northern Illinois:
Lindsey Hahn (Truth 16U Porter) – A 5’8’’ PG from Lyons Township, Hahn does a lot of good things offensively. She is typically the lead ball handler for her team and takes care of the ball well. Hahn, a rising Junior, is crafty in traffic and finishes well at the hoop and can shoot the ball from three at a high clip. She’s been a solid PG every time I’ve seen her, but the three-point shooting has become a big strength of hers over the past year.
Erin Houpt (Midwest Elite 16U EYBL) – The 5’7’’ rising Junior from Danville High School is a PG that can score when needed but is truly a well-rounded talent. Houpt has a great handle with quickness in traffic and can beat her opponents one-on-one to get in the lane. Defensively she consistently provides pressure on the opposing ball handler and can force turnovers frequently. Beyond her tangible attributes, she also possesses strong leadership abilities to help drive her team to success.
Christine Corpuz (Truth 17U Black) – Corpuz is a 5’5” PG from Oswego East who plays with a ‘pass first’ mentality but can score effectively in the lane. The ‘High Academic’ (36 on her ACT) rising Senior plays well at the lead guard position on both ends and is a natural leader out on the court.
Lauren Cohen (Chicago Hoops Express Silver) – A 5’8” PG from Glenbard South, Cohen is a well-rounded player that gives you a lot on both ends of the floor. The rising Junior is a lock-down defender, who uses her quick feet and athletic frame to guard multiple positions. Offensively Cohen is someone you can trust to bring the ball up and handle well under pressure. She can get in the lane and score at times and also possesses a nice spot up jumper.
Lenee Beaumont (Chicago Power) – Beaumont is a rising Freshman at Benet Academy who continues to impress at the 16U level. The 5’9” Guard can play multiple positions, but I really like her abilities at the lead spot. Her athleticism and length give coaches the flexibility to have her guard many different players on the opposing team. Offensively, Beaumont handles the ball as well as anyone her age and has a consistently effective jump shot.
Molly Sheehan (Truth 16U Silver) – The 5’9” PG from Benet Academy is one of the best pure ball handlers in her class. The rising Junior loves to push the ball up the floor and is constantly looking for ways to get her teammates involved. Sheehan can score in the lane given the opportunity, but she has already proved to be a reliable shooter from beyond the arc.
