It also is likely the most highly attended – from July 5th-8th, over 1000 coaches/evaluators emerged on the Kentucky Expo Center to watch some of the country’s top players.
On one of the biggest exposure weekends of the year, Ohio was well-represented in Louisville. A number of teams made runs in the Platinum and Gold divisions and a number of players emerged as legitimate college prospects, while a few familiar faces continued to solidify themselves as some of the state’s best.
Who are some Ohio players that stood out in Louisville, Kentucky?
Peyton Alazaus – Team Huddle Silver – Class of 2020
Peyton is an outstanding offensive player who stretches the floor at a high level. She is an superb 3-point shooter who has no problem getting her shot off over larger defenders. Alazaus possesses good leadership-focused intangibles and rarely seems to show signs of being flustered. It will be interesting to see where Peyton ends up playing at the next level after her senior year at West Branch.
Hannah Archer – OV Lady Dragons – Class of 2022
A small-school standout, Archer has shown signs of growth. Only entering her sophomore year at Fort Frye, Hannah is a premier shooter of the basketball. She has the size and skill-level to develop into one of the top combo guards in southern Ohio. There is potential for her to add muscle to an athletic frame, making her a tougher defender – where she could stand to continue to make progress.
Madison Bartley – Ohio Elite Black – Class of 2020
Bartley – a double-double machine – is a key cog on Ohio Elite’s 2020 team. With her size and athleticism she is a match-up nightmare for opposing defenses. Madison is a good passer who can play at either spot in a high-low offense, while also proving to be outstanding in a variety of screening actions and situations.
Taylor Leatherman – Buckeye State Blast Royal – Class of 2020
A great wing defender, Leatherman consistently shuts down both back-court and front-court scorers. Her Royal squad had a huge weekend – pushing Blue Star Atlanta’s Cagers to the brink in their Platinum division championship game and Taylor had a large part in that effort. Offensively, she comes in the “slasher” mold – driving to the rim and finishing at a high level. She is a solid stand-still shooter from both 3-point land and the mid-range.
Hailie Morgan – Cincy Swish Martin – Class of 2020
A long and lanky post, Morgan has the potential to turn into a dominant front-court player. She runs the floor very well, often times beating less-agile posts to the rim for easy lay-ups – where she finishes effectively off of her feet with both hands.
Ella Neitzel – TNBA West Black – Class of 2022
An off-guard with above-average quickness and agility, Neitzel is a great 3-point shooter with her feet set. She has a quick release and serious range, especially for someone with 3 HS seasons left. Her playmaking skill helps teammates get open looks and she can probably be an effective point guard down the road – in addition to her scoring exploits off of the ball.
Taylor Thierry – SMAC Fitz – Class of 2021
Point guard with good handles and elite court vision. She is a great defender on-the-ball and off-the-ball, causing a number of deflections and stealing a number of passes each time she takes the court. Plays with a high level of confidence, while maintaining complete control of her team. Competes hard.
