As summer ball is now in full swing, Prep Girls Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top players on the rise in a variety of positions.
Below are some of the state’s players to keep your eyes on in the 2022 class
Brynn McCormick, 5’7, G, 2022, Scott Community
McCormick shows a lot of promise as a scorer and primary ball-handler. She’s good at staying active even if she doesn’t have the ball and hasn’t had many touches. She can create openings for herself and others and has good vision and can pass and do everything you look for in a guard. A leader who looks to get her teammates involved.
Reagan Ponzer, 5’7, G, 2022, Olathe South
An excellent three-point shooter and an aggressive defender. Ponzer brings a nice combination of athleticism and determination to the floor. She is good at making plays for herself and can play off the ball as she is great at staying on the move. She can also contribute inside the perimeter and can get to the basket and find open teammates if she doesn’t have the best look.
Emily Whorter, 5’7, G, 2022, McPherson
A guard who looks to contribute any way she can on the floor. She can stay with the ball on defense and looks to apply tough pressure up top and can test shots along the perimeter. she handles the ball some and can score when she’s confident and in the zone.
AmUnique Cavitt, 5’5, G, 2022, Sunrise Christian Academy
A point guard who can handle tough pressure up top and avoid problem areas of the floor. She can get around opponents using her IQ and her speed. She is also able to play as a scoring guard and can connect from a distance and get inside and get her shot off before defense is collapse.
Gracie Gilpin, 5’6, G, 2022, Emporia
An agile player who shows flexibility and speed. She can force turnovers and has quick hands and tonight for the ball. She can connect from distance and has solid shooting form and a soft touch. An active player across the board who knows how to contribute on either side of the floor. She can see time as a point or a scoring guard depending on the situation at hand.
