Continue ReadingTeam Lex Gold is filled with Division 1 players, they’re all over my PGH rankings for that class, their Desoto high school squad finished runner up in the highest classification last year as freshmen and they were runner up in the 2nd highest division, losing by 1, at Premier Basketball’s Super 64 so with that being said, I’ll come back to them later and give you something on some of the other standouts from the event right now
Ashlon Jackson-6’0 PG (HTX Fire 2020) Hardin Jefferson HS- the game starts at the one and six feet is the magic number to play at the next level but this young lady showed me in the 5th grade she would play D1 ball and now she’s a LEGITIMATE McDonald’s All American candidate and was a finalist for the USA as well as #BCSLock with offers from major universities from everywhere. Size, unlimited range and just a nightmare to defend, plus she’s sees the floor and makes those around her better, by the way she led her high school team to finals of the state championship
Adlee Blacklock-6’1 PG/SG (Breeze Elite 2022) Trinity HS- I caught a glimpse of her in one game and she was so impressive I needed a double take so the second time around, she showed me even more. Mid to long range with accuracy at her size and age is always a huge plus but one of the bonuses is that she can get hers in the flow of the game. She defends well, inside and on the perimeter and rebounds on both ends of the court. The scary part is she hasn’t peaked but she too is a legitimate D1 player at the next level
Carleigh WenzelCarleigh Wenzel -5’11 SG (SA Finest Team Dungee) O’Connor HS- the first thing I noticed about her early was her shot and over the years, her range has extended to other zip codes. She’s long and athletic and releases her shot so fluidly that it’s easy to see why she has BCS offers on the table. The most impressive thing is that she continues to add to her game, on both ends of the floor and her knowledge of the game is second to none
Jadyn Fife-5’11 F (Texas Elite Raptors) Keller Fossil Ridge HS-I guess “highlight waiting to happen” would be a nice phrase to use and I’ve watched her for at least three years defy gravity. She understands how to create her shot in tight situations and she attacks from every angle. Nice mid to long range keeps defense honest plus she rebounds and defends well
Caitln Panuco-5’7 PG/SG (Lady Wolfpack) Whitney HS-that SG has dual meanings because not only can she shoot, she finds ways to score, multiple ways and to top that off, she understands how to run a team. Solid, smart basketball has always attracted me to the girls side and watching Panuco get after it a few years ago definitely kept my attention. Her long range was always there, that midrange adds fuel to the fire while she also finishes strong after contact
Sydney WardSydney Ward-6’0 SG/SF (Texas Elite Chuck 2020) another player that showed me so many signs at a young age that she would be special watching her glide through the air effortlessly, with her wing span and athleticism tells me she is going to be a monster at the next level. I know she has three years left in high school but also know she’s a #BCSLock with her ability to score from long range, mid range, whatever range but her lock down defense as well as playing the passing lanes on the court, which leads to numerous layups going the other way is just a joy to watch
R’Mani Taylor-5’6 PG (Houston Skyrise Edmond) Shadow Creek HS- when I see a young player playing against older kids and by young I’m thinking 4th or 5th grade, I look for certain things in that player like how they handle certain situations, if they get flustered and how well they handle their composure so the poise she showed early told mew a lot. Her range is from the time line, she threads the needle for assists and just controls the tempo with ease. I said she was a major D1 years ago and when I use the word LOCK, throw away the key, it’s a done deal
