Assistant coach Zach Kancher provided his usual energetic instruction and encouragement as the campers ran though several fast paced drills to start the event. Some of the top prospects were then chosen play in All Star games.
Here are some of the stand outs from the Friday night session.
Jalyn Brown, Lady Prime, 2022 Point Guard
Jalyn is a six foot point guard with great length and athleticism. She aced all the drills and dominated in the all star games as well. Her handle is tight and she terrorized defenders with her ability to get into the paint and finish at the rim or with floaters and short jumpers. She has good defensive instincts and uses her size and speed to disrupt. She is a game changer and received an offer from Towson University head coach Diane Richardson on the spot.
Jada Williams, Books and Basketball, 2021, 6’1 Post
Strong, physical post player that looks to punish defenders. She is a force in the paint and runs the floor well. Her post defense was stellar and she rebounded well. Nothing flashy about her game, but she is a baller.
Ciara Bailey, Running Rebels, 6’3″ Post
I was extremely impressed with this 2020 Towson recruit. Standing a legit 6’3″ she caught my eye during the drills with fluid movements and fundamentals. She did not disappoint in the games either. She is an explosive finisher with both hands with a solid face up game. She showed off some soft hands in traffic and nice footwork. She’ll make an immediate impact in the CAA.
Lauren Mingo, New World Elite, 2022 Guard
Lauren is a powerful guard that goes hard all day. She excels in the open court where she looks to get all the way to the rim, but will make the right play and dish off. She thrives on contact and made shots from all over the court. She will mix it up defensively which led to several steals and open court opportunities. She is a very high energy player.
Sophia Diehl, Maryland Belles, 2021, 6’0″ Wing
Sophia was one of the best shooters at the camp. She has a quick release and moves well without the ball. She shot it well in catch and shoot situations and also off the bounce. She has good length and lateral quickness which she uses to her advantage on defense. She should pull in some nice offers in July.
Samiya Esema, Power Move, 2020, 6’0, Power Forward
Samiya is an athletic big with a nice shooting touch inside the paint. She gets up and down the floor and hits the glass hard, especially offensively. She has a nice perimeter shot out to the 3 point range and an emerging face up game.
