AAU and high school teams from Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware converged to showcase in front of the CAA champions staff along with some division two coaches that were on hand. It was also a chance for teams to fine tune their games before the start of the July live period. Lots of good match-ups with several games going into overtime. The wings are near and dear to me because they are so versatile, at the best they can play any position on the floor and are extremely valuable. Here are the wings that stood out during the day.
Mariah Wilson – 5’9″ – Wing – Team Takeover – 2021
Mariah WilsonMariah played with a lot of energy and was able to get to the rim after a quick move or fake. She was good at drawing contact and getting to the line where she knocked down her free throws. She had great defense throughout the day.
Peyton Kirchner – 6’1″ – Wing – Elevate Elite – 2021
Peyton KirchnerPayton has the range and accuracy to knock the three and a good touch in the mid range. She was comfortable with either her back to the basket or facing up. Defensively she has the size to guard post and the quickness to guard athletic wings.
Alyssa Andrews – 5’11” – Wing – Takeover – 2021
Alyssa AndrewsAlyssa was all over the floor on both ends. She was terrific in transition and made some timely outside shots to carry her team into overtime and on to victory. She has good size and a good body to be an effective wing/guard at the college and pro level.
Lauren Mingo – 5’8″ – Wing – New World – 2022
Lauren MingoLauren was good at attacking the basket efficiently with one or two dibbles. She stayed active even without the ball as she constantly worked to get open putting pressure on the defense. She showed her range early with back to back three pointers which opened up the driving lanes.
Nekhu Mitchell – 5’9″ – Wing – Power Move -2022
Nekhu MitchellNekhu is one of the top players in her class. She has a relentless motor and she wills her way to the basket. She gets virtually every loose 50/50 ball and will dive on the floor to save a possession. She is a natural wing but, can defend the post when needed.
Aniya Wilson – 5’9″ – Wing – Team Durant – 2020
Aniya WilsonAniya has the complete package. She can handle the ball, shoot from beyond the arc and is as athletic as they come, She uses a quick first step to get by defenders and she stays under control when transitioning at full speed. Aniya has a good pull up off of the dibble and has a good catch and shoo as well.
