I spent the last week at Lakepoint Complex in Georgia and walked away impressed with the performance of multiple Washington teams. The talent in the northwest is very high right now and the team’s performances follow the trend of talent.
(15u) Northwest Blazers Sparks
The Sparks finished off their season with a runner-up finish at adidas Nationals, falling to Team Loaded out of Virginia. While the Sparks led for 90% of the game, Team Loaded came roaring back and would go on to win in Overtime. 2023 5’9 G Mjracle Sheppard was impressive all week and had the opportunity to play in front of dozens of Division 1 schools. The Sparks roster included four incoming freshman and 7 incoming sophomores.
(17u) Northwest Greyhounds Black
The Greyounds top team capped off a very strong season by winning the Gold division of the adidas Gauntlet. 2022 5’9 G Zahirah Walton has really impressed with her smooth skill set and natural ability on both sides of the ball. She did not shoot the most shots on the team at all, but her ceiling is probably the highest as a college prospect.
(17u) Northwest Blazers Heat
The 17u Silver division champions won their final game in borderline blowout fashion. 2021 5’11 SF Tamia Stricklin had a strong championship performance, showing her ability to be effective at the high post in the middle of the zone. This win marks the 10th national championship won in NW Blazers history between adidas and AAU nationals of the past. *Feature image
(17U) Northwest Blazers Orange
The Northwest Blazers Orange team has been in more adidas Platinum division title games than any program in adidas history. The back and forth game with Indiana Elite Thunder resulted in a 6 point loss at the final buzzer. 2020 6’0 SF Maisie Burnham had an all around strong showing at adidas Nationals, displaying solid basketball IQ and a tenacity on the boards.
(16u) Northwest Blazers Fire
The Fire team made up of incoming freshman to incoming juniors placed 5th in the 17u Gold division. This team peaked at the right time and lost by 2 points to the eventual runner up. 2021 5’11 F Chenoa Louie brought consistent production throughout the tourney.
In summary, 2 national titles and 2 runner ups for a single state is beyond impressive! The northwest was well represented and multiple players will pick up offers following some strong performances. Be on the lookout for recruitment updates over the course of the next couple months!
