Continue ReadingUnlike the Red Division last season, the CMAC Blue was a more obvious race with Gamble Montessori winning the division title a year ago. 2019-20 looks similar that the top 2 teams are the same but a lot of talent has graduated from several teams. In today’s preview I look at 4 of the 5 teams in the CMAC Blue Division and provide notes and predictions for the upcoming season.
Cincinnati College Prep-
Who is back: Aminah Kelly (2021), Dayonea Evans (2021), Clydaysha Madaris (2020)
3 of the top 4 scorers from a year ago are gone for CCP. Madaris will be the senior leader for this team as much of their returning talent are juniors and sophomores. Kelly led the CMAC in steals a year ago while Evans shot 54% from the floor. They are a solid defensive team that has players to defend the post and the perimeter.
Gamble Montessori–
Who is back: Da’Monee Shetton (2022), Trezjure Amison (2021), Laila Christmon (2021)
The Gators found success late last season, winning 5 of their last 6 games before falling to Clark Montessori in the tournament. Unfortunately, a lot of scoring has graduated leaving a large void for Gamble to overcome. Christmon and Amison are the leading scorers back, but combined for 10 points per game a year ago. Shetton is such a low post threat on the glass and defensive end as she averaged 12 rebounds per game and was one of the best shot blockers in the conference. She must improve her scoring output as she averaged less than 2 points per game last year.
Oyler
Who is back: Tatiyana Canady (2022), Kezziah Britten (2022)
Two sophomores will be tasked with guiding Oyler as they try and rebound after last season’s struggling year. Canady and Britten are part of a young Madhatter’s team a year ago that should be much improved, but will need to find scoring options as they averaged less than 30 points per game a year ago.
Riverview East
Who is back: Akasha Parker (2022), Cierra Trimble (2021), Maleia Napier (2021)
East struggled last season in the CMAC, but return several juniors that will be leaned on to continue improving. Offense is going to be an early struggle on, as they averaged less than 30 points per game a year ago, but they have several different weapons that can be leaned on to help fill this.
SCPA– Not enough info available to preview this team
Predicted Finish
1. Cincinnati College Prep- Better defensive team and more upperclassmen driven
2. Gamble Montessori- Lose too much scoring to defend their title but still 2nd best team in Blue division
3. Riverview East- Not a great offensive team, but have enough returning to improve
4. Oyler- Still a young team; should be much improved but still one year away
