I look for this division to be pretty much split in half. The top eight teams in the league I feel will all have a shot at a winning record, with the elite teams looking to make a nice tournament run.
Here are four of the teams who will battle it out this coming season, with the remainder posted tomorrow:
Arcanum- this team is stacked pretty heavy this season with a good mix of senior leadership and young stars. Seniors Kayla O’Daniel and Grace Garno are both experienced veterans who provide leadership and talent. O’Daniel has seen her game grow, while Garno is a steady floor general at the guard spot. One of the top sophomore groups in the state make up a good nucleus of this team. Taylor Gray Taylor Gray 6'0" | C Arcanum | 2022 OH is a multi-sport athlete who at 6’ does a nice job in the post. The two perimeter players Madelyn Fearon Madelyn Fearon 5'6" | CG Arcanum | 2022 State OH and Hailey Unger have seen their games explode to a new level.
Bethel- The junior backcourt of Kenna Gray Kenna Gray 5'7" | CG Tipp City Bethel | 2021 State OH and Liz Reittinger are as talented as there is in the league. Gray is a kid who can break open a zone with her perimeter shot, and can slash to the rim. Reittinger also has a deadly outside shot, and can make things happen. Samantha Wiley is a hard-nosed athlete who looks to contribute, and watch out for Lydia Lowry who could have a breakout season.
Bradford- Last season, Austy Miller Austy Miller 5'6" | CG Bradford | 2022 OH turned a lot of heads when she took the league by storm as a freshman. Now a year older and a year better, Miller hopes to take her game to another level. The guard took over the leadership role when her older sister Skipp went down with an injury.
Covington- the Buccs lost a lot with the graduation of Sammi Whiteman, but look to build a new identity with a solid core of returning players. Senior Morgan Kimmel returns to play inside and out offensively and is a key defender. Senior Morgan Lowe returns at a wing and is a key defender. A pair of sophomores also look to be major contributors, as Claudia Harrington will take over the point guard spot, and Makenzee Maschino will return mid-season coming off an ACL injury and will be a key asset at both ends of the floor.
Franklin Monroe- Talk about a player who has grown her game, look no further than senior Corina Conley Corina Conley 6'0" | C Franklin Monroe High School | 2020 State OH . The 6-foot wing has grown from a post player mentality as a freshman to one of the most versatile and complete players in the Dayton area heading into her senior year. Audrey Cable is back from an injury and is expected to be one of the better guards in the league. Bella Cable can shoot with anyone, and I expect her to also have a solid year. Keep an eye on Stella Shellabarger who is improving at the guard spot.
