Belmont
After a season that saw some low numbers and a young team, Belmont hopes for improvement this year.
Dunbar
Returns four players with starting experience from a team who won the City League last year. Gone is Player of the Year Mone Allen and three other key seniors. They will be a small but scrappy team this year, focusing on defense. Back is senior Samaria Brown, who can score inside/out and is a guard who likes to play inside. Also Rickera McCluskey is back as the senior will be the lead guard and is tough defender. Skyy Robbins and Briyanna Combs also returns, as does Ammauria Moore who came over from Carroll High School last year.
Meadowdale
Lashelle Bennett is a sophomore with great range out to the arc, a nice midrange pullup and once she settles in with her confidence, she is tough to defend. She also has good handles who can play both guard spots. Also returning is junior Sennua Barnes.
Ponitz
Jordan Pettigrew was a second-team all conference player last season as a freshman. She is a heady player with a high IQ offensively and defensively. She will put pressure on teams in transition. Very strong defensive player who plays the passing lanes well. Also returning is a key player Zyria Wright, a 5-6 junior. Watch for Heather Long as the guard spot who had a good summer.
Stivers
A pair of key returning juniors will lead the way for Stivers this season, as 5-4 guard Ariana Williams and 5-6 small forward Mariah Dixon will both be key factors in their success this season.
Thurgood Marshall
Returns a ferocious defender in 5-foot-5 senior Taylor Dunson, who has a high basketball IQ on offense and is good in transition. This team was very young last season, and hopes to improve with a new head coach Duane Hutchinson.
