Continue ReadingThe Ohio Heritage Conference will again this season be a competitive conference with no less than seven of the 12 teams finishing at .500 or better last season. While the South will be previewed tomorrow, today I will take a look at some of the top players and teams in the North Division when the season tips off later this fall.
Fairbanks
With only two wins last season, they have nowhere to go but up. Senior Michaela Writesel is a 5-7 forward who returns as the leading offensive player this season. Bella Rowland is another senior who will need to increase her production this season.
Mechanicsburg
They return a pair of very talented guards, as Kasey Schipfer is a 5-8 senior who looks to stay healthy this season to help the Indians compete for the league title. Schipfer is a guard with next-level skills, an outstanding shooter and can get to the rim and score. She is joined in the backcourt by 5-7 junior Grace Forrest, who shined all of last season and really improved her game. Morgan Hamby is another senior who is back, giving the Indians a lot of firepower this season.
Northeastern
Northeastern did not win a game last season, finishing 0-22 on the year and got very little production from their players, only averaging 24 points per game. Senior Amy Stewart returns as the 6-foot post player was their offensive leader last season at nearly 10 points per game. Someone will have to step up and help Stewart out if they are going to try and turn things around.
Triad
A pair of twins return and will be the main force behind the Cardinal offense again this year. Frani and Cati LeVan are back as senior guards, and they combined last season for nearly 27 points per game. That was well over half of what the team averaged. Bailey Perry is the other starter to return this season.
West Liberty Salem
They had another great season last year and completely dominated the conference, finishing 16-0 in league play. They lost their top two players, but return 5-11 junior Selena Weaver, who has worked to improve her game in the post. Sophomore Emily Hollar Emily Hollar 5'7" | CG West Liberty Salem | 2022 OH returns after a great freshman season, as her game really blossomed the second half of the season. They are the team to beat until proven otherwise.
