2021 Rankings Overview
The rankings update for the 2021 class will be dropping very soon. Time is truly flying with this class and I am fortunate to have been closely watching this group since early elementary school. The group is shaping up pretty nicely overall and the recruitment is really starting to pick up for many players throughout the state. Here are some other things to keep in mind as we move forward with the 2021 class.
1. Multiple recruiting updates coming SOON
September 1st is a big date for these juniors to-be. Colleges can officially make outgoing calls to prospects and will be doing so for potential prospects and top priority prospects. Many schools have already wrapped up their 2020 class or will be very soon and move towards targeting 2021 players aggressively. Players are going to be positioning themselves among their peers as far as where they stand as true college prospects.
2. These updated rankings are based on…
Player’s potential as a college prospects, current level of recruitment and their performance from this summer. I attended a handful of college elite camps, team camps, high school tournaments and NCAA Viewing events. I am regularly in contact with college, club and high school coaches on a variety of players. I have seen everyone on the 2021 rankings in person at least once, if not dozens of times in many cases.
3. The best argument I have heard from someone on their ranking is…
“I have an offer from ___ University”. Rankings are fun to some people and useful in some ways to colleges, but in the end, colleges are telling players how good they really are by offering them. A handful of players in the 2021 class have Division 1 offer(s) throughout the northwest, so that is the biggest measure of where someone stands with the colleges.
4. The class of the mid-major player
Washington’s 2021 class is really dominated by a plethora of mid-major Division 1 prospects. The majority of the top 5-10 players are on track to play mid-major college ball. While the senior class of 2020 has over a half dozen players that will go on to play high major ball, the junior class has around the same number of D1 prospects.
5. GREAT SIZE
There is a wealth of quality forwards and centers for 2021. Division 1 and Division 2 coaches should have a field day recruiting 6’2-6’4 posts and many of them are totally flying under the radar right now, as they don’t all play for prominent club programs.
