In this article I will be taking a look at 2020 players that earned spots on Kansas Basketball Coaches Association all-state and/or HOA teams.
Kinzie Comley, Sterling, 5’9″, G/F – 2A all-state honorable mention, Topeka Capitol Journal 2A second team all-state, HOA first team. Comley has the ability to score with a variety of moves around the block, step out to hit a three, and beat people off the dribble. She is fast in transition and an aggressive rebounder.
Meg Friday, Hutchinson Trinity, 5’7″, G – HOA honorable mention. Friday is a steady presence on the floor, usually playing on the wing. With good size, strength, and speed she is a solid defender. Friday has the ability to score when she needs to but usually does so out of the flow of the offense.
Rachel Harman, Inman, 5’11”, C – HOA second team. Harman commands attention on both ends of the floor because of her size, rebounding, and interior scoring ability with 12′ range. Her strength, build, speed, and competitiveness also contributes to difficulties teams have matching up.
Lauren Maurer, Inman, 5’9″, F – HOA honorable mention. Maurer is a three point shooting threat. With good size and strength she is also a defensive force.
Chloe Stanley, Bennington, 5’7″, PG – HOA first team. While not a standout, prolific three point shooter Stanley is otherwise very active. This past season she averaged 8.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.3 steals. She is a strong ball handler, creates her own shot off the dribble, is an athletic finisher, is solid defensively, and is an off-ball steal threat. Speed she has as well. Stanley is the 2019 2A 300m hurdles state champion.
Grace Thompson, Sedgwick, 5’4″, PG – 2A all-state honorable mention, HOA first team. Thompson is a creator and scorer with tremendous speed and quickness. Thompson has a quick first step and ability to finish at the rim or quickly pull up for a mid-range jumper. Thompson has three point range, which opens up the dribble-drive. With quick hands, great transition speed, and the ability to anticipate passes she is a steal threat who can turn it into two points quickly. Court vision and passing ability are strong in transition and in the half court. She has strong ability to hit gaps in zones to create opportunities. She also seals well on the box out and can score with her back-to-basket game.
Brooke Wiebe, Berean Academy, 5’6″, G – 1A all-state honorable mention, HOA first team. Wiebe is fast and has the ability to score in transition. She is also a three point threat. She frequently was in double figures throughout the season.
