In the final game of the day on All Star Sunday the top players of the DMV Turf Wars Summer League took on a select team chosen by Next Sports Phenom. The game was pretty exciting as Turf Wars went on a big run in the first half going into the break with a 15 point lead. The NSP Select team erased the lead within the first 3 minutes of the second half but fell short in the end as the Turf Wars All Stars prevailed. Here are some of the standouts from the game.
Standout Players:
NIA FORD – 5’9″ – WING – FLOWERS – 2021
Nia Ford MVPNia had a solid all around game taking away the MVP award for the Turf Wars squad. She shot the three well and making four of them finishing with a team high 19 points. She made plays all over the floor showing an all around game. Her size helped her on the boards and her shooting touch opened up lanes for her to attack the basket.
TYINHIA SKINNER – 5’5″ – POINT GUARD – TPLS – 2020
Tyinhia SkinnerTy willed her team back into the game as they trailed by 15 points at the half. She scored 11 straight within a two minute span to help cut the lead to one point. She shot the three nicely off the bounce and had lock down perimeter defense. She was selected as the co-MVP representing Next Sports Phenom with 18 points.
KENNEDY CLIFTON – 5’8″ – GUARD – BISHOP IRETON – 2022
Kennedy CliftonKennedy got to the basket at will and was able to score against multiple defenders. She shot the ball well from every area on the floor and stretched the floor with her three pointer. She finished really well at the rim and was given the coaches award at the end of the game as a unprecedent third MVP as the standout performer finishing with 22 points.
ALANNA TATE – 5’6″ – POINT GUARD – CLARKSVILLE – 2023
Alanna showed that her shiftiness in the lane is just as effective on the high school level as it was in middle school. Alanna finds lanes to get to the basket even when they aren’t there. She has a slick handle and changes directions on a dime. She had a very impressive showing.
VICTORIA BERESFORD – 5’9″ – WING – ST. ANDREWS EPISCOPAL – 2022
Victoria has a really good basketball body and uses it well rebounding and finishing inside. She is tough in the paint but has the ability to step out and drop the three with a defender in her face. She was a big reason the Turf Wars team was able to pull out the victory.
