Alex Carmon of Beach City Hoops put on an event for the ages, he calls it the SoCal Clash 2019 All-Star Game and he put it on at PMA Academy HS in Downey, California. The first game which took place at 1pm was for the ladies and it featured some of the areas best in the classes of 2020 and 2021. This format made for a competitive arena, knowing that the 2020s would not allow the 2021s to win the game due to bragging rights. We were impressed with the 2021’s as they tried to jump on the 2020s in the beginning of the game, but the Seniors are experienced and did not get rattled by the onslaught from the Juniors. Great play by all, but most impressed with 2021, Mater Dei, Jr. Alyssa Frescas and her display of long bomb three-pointer from the volleyball hash mark and her tenacity on the floor handling the rock, she showed no weaknesses. 2021, Etiwanda HS, Jr., Jessica Peterson put on a down-low party, she rebounded her butt off the whole game, blocked shots and also made a few short mid range shots in the game. 2021, Corona Centennial HS, Jr., Jayda Curry was impressive as well, she shot the long ball well, and hit a few pull up jumpers and took the ball to the whole thru contact. 2021, Corona Centennial HS, Jr., Trinity San Antonio is no joke on the floor, she can score from all three levels and also will her team to compete hard all of the time. She is athletic and backed down to no one, cause she has seen it all before, very impressed with her play, look forward to her junior season. Now we get to the main event, talking about the winners of the game, especially about the MVP of the Game in 2020, Orangewood Academy HS, Sr., Sydney Gandy (Idaho WBB commit), she was amazing this afternoon, she hit about seven three-pointers in this game and was the person who broke open the lead to about 20 points late in the game. All of the 20s showed their stuff, her we go; 2020, Sierra Canyon HS, Sr., Alexis Mark (Holds 11 Offers) did everything, shot the midrange, hustled for loose balls, blocked shots, got the rim with her pump-fakes and good footwork, do it all player. 2020, Sierra Canyon HS, Sr., Ashley Chevalier (Texas commit) showed why she is a top player in the California with some nice mid range pull ups off the dribble and knocked down a few three ball in Jayda Currys face. She was able to get to the rim and showed her sweet lefty touch from outside. 2020, Cathedral Catholic HS, Sr., Mazatlan Harris (UC Davis commit) was a beast down low for her team, she blocked shots, made put back layups and ran the floor like a gazelle to get finishes at the rim. We really enjoyed the game, actually enjoyed it more than the Boys game on this afternoon, we hope the girls enjoyed the time with the staff and directors and we look forward to participating with this event next year.
