On a nice and sunny day in California, I get a call from an associate and he is driving from San Diego headed to the Cal Poly Pomona Elite camp to cover the event for his site. I put down what I was doing at the time and got in my car an headed down their my self to cover for PGH California, might as well get in a great story about a pretty well respected coach in the D2 ranks. We arrive around 12pm noon time and the girls were going over some defensive drills right before they decided to get up and down on the floor in some 5 on 5. We watched the kids play and these are the girls who stood out to us:
2021, 5’7, SG, Bonita Vista HS, Julia Cosalan is an emerging shooting guard in the Southern California area. Julia Cosalan is a solid shooting guard who can knock down the three ball with range and consistency, Cosalan has improved her ball handling
and defense as well. Julia shoots the three ball and the mid-range very well, has improved her ball handling so as to play the 1 position as well needs to continue to improve ball handling and increase strength.
2021, 5’9, SG, Bonita Vista HS, – Isabel Rector is a solid shooting guard who can shoot with consistency, run the floor and finishes in transition. Rector has improved in the areas of rebounding and ball handling, but continued improvement is needed. Rector uses her size to defend and creates a problem for the offensive player due to her length. Her strength is shooting the three ball with some consistency as well as the mid-range jump shot. Rector runs the floor well and has a good feel for the game.
2020, 5’8, CG, Marlborough HS, Parker Montgomery is a stocky guard with some scoring ability from a couple of levels, her three ball needs more consistency, but she can knock them down if left open. Scores by going to the basket thru contact, can make the midrange and has a decent floater game. She is a decent defender, she can guard her 1-3 positions on the floor and stays in front of her defender and gets thru screens.
