A quick look at the rankings and it is clear to see there is so much size across the board considering the fact that Washington does not consistently produce tons of size year by year. Here are a handful of names to know and some specific standouts at the 4/5 position.
2021 Posts to Know:
6’2 PF Trista Hull (La Salle HS)
6’2 C Katie Thiers (Roosevelt HS)
5’10 PF Mia Hughes (Woodinville HS)
6’4 C Allie Andrew (Ridgefield HS)
6’3 C Samantha Skaggs (Bellevue Christian HS)
6’3 C Charity Hines (Steilacoom HS)
6’4 C Sharayah Johnson (Lincoln HS)
6’2 C Faith Bergstrom (Camas HS)
6’2 C Gillyan Landis (West Valley HS)
The list could actually go on and on if I included more solid 6’0 forwards, but this is a good start of names for college coaches to really be aware of. The junior class in Washington has more size than any other class top to bottom, but many of these players are just now starting to get their names out there to the college coaches. I would not be surprised to see 8-12 (some not included on this list) posts throughout the class end up playing Division 1 basketball with the right exposure and development.
Best Shot Blocker:
This award would have to go to Allie Andrew. Her wingspan is ridiculously long and she gets off the floor well. She has less exposure and playing experience than many of the other girls, but she is an instant impact on the defensive end due to her length and timing.
Best Motor:
Mia Hughes gets the nod here. She is the shortest player on the list of posts, but she works extremely hard, has great hands and good timing on rebounds. She has a way of getting things done around the paint where she is definitely most comfortable.
Under the Radar Performer:
Samantha Skaggs is a really solid big that is less known about than some of her peers, but she can really impact the game. The 6’3 lefty is a solid rebounder, alters shots and has some touch around the basket. She plays at a small high school and non-shoe sponsored club program. Skaggs could easily fly under the radar, but she is someone that college coaches should be aware of. *Feature image
