There is always some movement here and there with the top 5, but there is quite a bit of change with the latest rankings. There is a possibility of more change in the future as these girls’ begin to separate themselves and show where they really belong as they are now “upperclassmen”.
1 New Prospect in the Top 5:
The newest player to enter the top five for the first time is 5’6 PG Ashlyn Wallace of Clarkston High School. Ashlyn is more than deserving and her track record speaks for itself as a 2x adidas All-American, 15u National Champion and 17u National Runner-up. She won MVP in her high school league and has already broken multiple school records, while also holding multiple Division 1 offers in the Big Sky and WCC. The left handed guard is a very good shooter and willing passer from the point guard position.
1 Returner in the Top 5:
6’2 F Katie Peneueta is back in the top 5, taking the fifth slot. She had an especially strong freshman high school season and carried that into her sophomore year with Heritage High School. Katie is a strong athlete with solid natural ability and skill. She spent the summer with Team Northwest in the 17u EYBL and had some good games here and there, while adjusting the high level of play. I expect her to continue to make strides in the right direction with her all around game versus the highest levels of competition.
Haley Huard and Tamia Stricklin Move Up:
6’1 SG Haley Huard takes over the number two slot in the class. Coming off of a 4A state championship during the high school season, Huard had the opportunity this Spring to play in the Platinum Division of the adidas Gauntlet. She picked up offers from Portland and Idaho in the process, while opening up her recruitment to a variety of other Division 1 schools. Huard is a catch and shoot three point threat and has good length on the defensive end. *Feature image
5’11 SF Tamia Stricklin of Seattle Prep High School takes over number three in the 2021 class, after ranking number 5 previously. Tamia had a solid spring and summer, winning a 17u Silver National Championship with the Northwest Blazers. The lefty wing was consistent throughout the club season, never getting too high or low. Her rebounding was greatly improved from a year ago and she battled players quicker and bigger than her, playing multiple positions. Her recruitment picked up as much as anyone’s in the state with Mountain West, Big Sky, WAC and WCC schools now heavily targeting her.
Number 1 is Locked Up:
5’11 SG Talia von Oelhoffen is the prized recruit in the state for many colleges throughout the country. Talia was the leading scorer of the adidas Gauntlet this summer and will have her choice for a college destination when she so chooses.
Top 5 prospect “left out”:
6’2 F Trista Hull is a top 5 prospect in the state, but sat the entire summer with a shoulder injury. She remains in the top 10, but it was appropriate to give the nod to players that performed throughout the entire spring and summer for their respective clubs. The 1A State Champion and MVP should have another very strong season for La Salle High School this Winter.
Niveya Henley Out of State:
As previously reported, 5’11 SG Niveya Henley will be attending prep school out of the state of Washington. In the past, I have kept players leaving state in the rankings, but will now focus on players living in state as far as rankings goes.
