In the end, it is not about where you start, it is about where you finish and players that continue to evolve their skill set and all around ability will typically find themselves higher than where they started. Here are some players that saw themselves rise in the latest 2021 rankings update.
5’5 PG Esmeralda Morales (Bethel HS)
Why she rose: Esmeralda was the smallest player on Team Norhtwest’s 17u EYBL roster, but she was the most consistent player throughout the spring and summer. With offers now on the table from from San Jose State, UCSB and Portland State, Morales’ continued skill development has paid off. *Feature image
5’10 SF Taliyah Clark (Bishop Blanchet HS)
Why she rose: Taliyah was a standout performer on Tree of Hope’s 16u team this spring and summer. She is very strong and physical at the wing position and can shoot it from deep. She puts up big numbers in the high school setting and carried some of that momentum into the travel season. Taliyah is someone that colleges should be paying more attention to due to her scoring ability.
6’0 SF Fatoumata Jaiteh (Meadowdale HS)
Why she rose: Fatoumata first came onto the scene this winter with some strong high school playoff performances. She has only added to her arsenal since then, gaining some smaller Division 1 interest. I was able to evaluate her closely and came away impressed with how coachable she is. She will only get better with time and just needs to keep working on her perimeter offensive skill set and strength.
5’11 SF Jaliyah Sampson (Rainier Beach HS)
Why she rose: Jaliyah has a good amount of natural ability on the court. She has good size in the 5’11-6’0 range and she can shoot the mid range pull up with good accuracy. She is definitely under the radar with college recruiting, but someone could potentially get a steal in south Seattle if they made her a priority right now.
5’5 PG Aaliyah Collins (Glacier Peak HS)
Why she rose: Aaliyah is highlighted in the point guards to know as well, but she rose in the rankings after a strong high school season and travel season with the WA Swarm. She is blazing fast and hard to keep in front for most defenders. She has the athleticism to play at the Division 1 level.
