The preliminary high school game had just as much talent as the main game. It was one of the best games of the day with multiple lead changes and a lot of players had bright moments throughout. These were some of the players that stood out.
ZANAI BARNETT-GAY – 5’8″ – COMBO GUARD – CMIT – 2022
Zanai Barnett-GayZanai worked her soft mid range floater to start the game off showing it was a shot that she can consistently knock down. She showed range from the three and made her free throws on way to a team high 18 points and a most valuable player award.
NHAIKYIA SMITH – 5’7″ – POINT GUARD – PALLOTTI – 2020
Nhaikyia SmithNhaikyia is deceptively quick and has a good change of speed dribble that keeps defenders off balance. Her game has steadily improved year after year and now she is playing at a high level for division one. She has great vision keeping her eyes up in transition to find open teammates.
AHNA THOMAS – 5’8″ – GUARD – BOWIE – 2021
Ahna ThomasAhna picked up the MVP award for the black team. She scored a game high 22 points scoring in a variety of ways. Her two three pointers in the beginning of the game helped open up the game. She finished just as strong scoring half of her points in the second half.
CHANNING WILLIAMS – 5’9″ – GUARD – RIVERDALE BAPTIST SCHOOL – 2023
Channing WilliamsChanning was one of the younger players in the game but, that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to bring it. She attacked the basket no matter who was on her and her shot was on as she knocked down several three pointers. She finished the game with 15 points and made a name for herself in the process.
NAILA NEWMAN – 5’4″ – POINT GUARD – ROCKVILLE – 2023
Naila NewmanNaila was a ball of energy on the floor. She was active on both ends especially defensively. She was diving after loose balls and trying to make every possession count.
