In this article we will take a look at which players in the Mississippi Valley Conference will be able to consistently drain those big shots for their team.
- Clare Breden is a 5’5 2021 guard from Jerseyville. Clare is a very good shooter with deep range. She is hard to guard because she can beat you off the dribble. Clare has expanded her range to take advantage of teams that lay off her. She will punish you for giving her the shot, even two steps past the line. Clare hit 67 shots from behind the line last year and made 75% of her free throws. Her shot is true and consistent. Clare is player that has already heard from colleges and could be a great fit at a D2 or lower level D1 program.
- Aubrey Hubbard is a 5’9 2020 guard from Waterloo. Aubrey was one of the top 3 point shooters in the St. Louis area last year. She averaged 2.57 made per game, with 72 total. Aubrey was a transfer from out of state and caught everyone by surprise making 11 in her first two games. As teams adjusted so did Aubrey and she had a nice season.
- Ellie Brown is a 5’6 2020 guard from Highland. Ellie made 37 shots from behind the 3 point line and made 72% of her free throws last year. She has been a big part of the team at Highland, leading them in scoring the last two years. This year she will assume more of the point guard role for Coach Hamilton. Ellie has deep range and a knack for hitting the big shot. She is definitely a player that should be on the radar for NAIA/D3 teams.
- Kourtland Tyus is a 5’7 2020 guard from Civic Memorial. Kourtland made 54 shots from the 3 point line last year and also hit 71% of her free throws. During the summer season she was on fire from deep and looks to really have a great senior year. Kourtland is a 4 year starter that has offers from D2 level schools.
- Maiah Kelly is a 5’11 2020 wing from Mascoutah. Maiah is an extremely versatile player that will see time at the 2,3 and 4 spots this year. She is very athletic and can get to the rim. Maiah was consistent last year hitting a 3 pointer in almost every game, while having 2-3 in some games. With a good off season Maiah looks poised to step those numbers up in her senior year.
- Kelbie Zupan is a 5’5 2022 guard from Civic Memorial. Kelbie was 2nd on the team in made 3 pointers as a freshman last year. She was able to get valuable minutes as the depth was depleted due to injuries. Kelbie has an excellent shooting stroke and the one year of experience should help slow down the game for her. Kelbie did hit 70% of her free throws so she has proven she can be a great sniper for CM if she is left open.
- Megan Kronk is a 5’8 2020 guard from Highland. Megan is an excellent offensive player that will be counted on this year to carry a little more of the scoring load. She averaged about 7 points per game and 1 made 3 per game last year. Megan has a nice shooting stroke that allowed her to hit 79% of her free throws. She can help their inside players have more space by having a good season hitting the outside shots.
The MVC conference has three very good teams in Civic Memorial, Jerseyville and Highland. All three teams have balanced offensive attacks that will be more lethal if their shooters can consistently bury the open 3. With Mascoutah, Triad and Waterloo looking to continue to build towards the top of the conference all three will be looking to find a way to consistently put points on the board to keep up with the top teams.
