Do not be haters and think, he is a bandwagon guy, because I am truly not, I have been a fan of the Golden State Warriors for the past 15 years. I remember the original Warriors with Tim Hardaway and Chris Mullens, they were tough and could play some basketball. Sorry for the sideline story, but lets get back to why I drove up to Oakland in the first place, it was for a great event title ” The Myles McGowan Coaches Classic. This is an event put on by Kameo Williams (Mr. Gems in the Gym) National Sports writer hailing from the great city of Oakland, California. This year he held the 13th Annual Myles McGowan Coaches Classic at Merritt College in Oakland, California in the main gym all day Saturday. The event featured a game scenario, which were the 2021s versus the 2022s, 2023 vs 2024 Fresh Faces and a Coaches Celebrity game. Let me give a quick shout out to all of the National Scout writers that were in the house, lets run down the roster; Prentice Beverly (Prentice Beverly Basketball), Santon Jones (Bones Ball N Prep), Lewis Roberts (Big City Hoops Scouting Service), Cynthia Guillory (WhaturSport.com) and of course myself Don Small (PrepGirlsHoops.com/California).
Malia Samuels (WA)
Kameo Williams put on a great event from start to finish, the kids played hard and they talent level was very good for the young kids, he coined the phrase, “FRESH FACES”, and they were worth the 5 hour drive from Los Angeles, California. The only bump in the road for this trip was when we stopped to get breakfast Saturday morning at The Black Bear Diner near the Oakland Airport, as we were coming out, we witnessed a person smash our back driver window and snatch our buddies bag from the back seat. Honestly, if we would of come out 5 minutes later, they would taken all of our computers, cameras and other personal effects out of the back of the hatch, we have to say we were lucky. We were not the only ones that weekend that was burglarized, a young lady that came from Washington with her father, they had their car broke into an they took all of their belongings and luggage before the tournament started. This young ladies name was 2023, 5’6, PG, Eastside Catholic School (WA), Malia Samuels and she was fund to watch, handled the ball with confidence, shot the ball very well and was very poised as a player, despite having the incident happen to her. The community and participants of the event, all showed some love to Samuel and her father, by donating basketball gear, shoes, jerseys and shorts on behalf of the Myles McGowan event. This is what community coming together is all about, people showing love to someone who they do not know, coming to their aid in trying times, great job Oakland community.
2021 Marley Langi – Arch Bishop Mitty HS
We arrived in time to watch about three or four games, the game we will talk about was the Fresh Faces 2021 vs. Fresh Faces 2022 Alumni game. The girls that were standouts to us were as followed; 2021 6’0 F Arch Bishop Mitty, (CA) Marley Langi is an athletic wing who defends, rebounds at high level and can score in a variety of ways, she is a three level scorer with a nice stroke and has a nice college body already. She is a bully and is agile enough to bring the ball up the floor as a big guard. Ring the alarm on this one, she is forreal. Next, we have 2021, 5’6, PG, Salesian HS (CA), Alexsandra Alvarado is a tough cookie as well, handles are really tight, she is fierce and not afraid of anyone on the floor and can also finish at the rim thru contact. True point guard here with some skillset. Coaches take notice…. Next up we have the 2022 Class Alumni players that stood out to us on this trip; we have 2022, 5’10, SG, Oak Ridge HS (CA), Teagan Brown is a DIA (Do It All) Player Award Recipient on the floor, she gets the award this week because of her all around game she showed to me and all of the writers at the event. She works hard on every possession, shoots it very well, can defend and has a knack for putting the ball in the hoop. Crafty off the dribble and has a definite determination to make her team get victories, PERIOD. Her teammates, we have 2022, 5’9, SG, Lowell HS (CA) Elie Ladine blocks shots, handles the ball well, shoots it with consistency and will run you down on the break and pin your shot off the board. Very high IQ player with a ton of upside and I heard that she is already holding a scholarship offer from UC Irvine.
Fresh Faces 2021 vs 2022 Alumni Game 2019
All in all, this event was more than we expected, we keep it real, this was a great trip and even a better business opportunity for all parties involved, we will cherish this experience and move forward in community awareness. We appreciate for the hospitality and the love he showed at his event, we will be covering his events again in the future and hope to work together with him to promote an event in California at some point in the future. MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT..
