I don’t base anything I write on what anyone else thinks, I respect others, well most others, who evaluate however from day one I saw bias, I saw politics and I also saw that everyone does not know what they’re talking about, this is one reason that “portal” will grow each year. Being around the game almost 20 years, observing, dissecting positions and just getting a feel on what a next level player looks like, I haven’t been wrong on any so here are seven
Shelby Hayes-6’1 P Cy Fair 16U EYBL (Cedar Park HS) good body and strength and knowing how to use both are always pluses but she showed power, finishing and rebounding and what really made me smile was her drop step, somewhat of a lost art in this era yet is still effective
Victoria Rivera-6’1 SF Cy Fair 16U EYBL (Dobie HS) has always been able to open games up and showed unlimited range even in elementary school. She’s long, athletic and can handle the ball and she showed that she can not only create her shot but attack the basket while being defended
Maya Linton- 5’10 PF Drive Nation 16U EYBL (Timbercreek HS) long and athletic is always good and when you add that first step, many good things can happen. She attacks well from all over the court and finishes strongly, after contact. Good timing, plays passing lane, rebounds and defends
Donovia HallDonovia Hall-5’10 PF Plano East (Urban Heroes DJ) one of the most versatile players in her class, she can play all five positions, she can score inside, outside or take defenders off the dribble. She can man up baseline to baseline and strong enough to defend in the paint
Kiersten Johnson- 6’3 P Drive Nation 16U EYBL (Prestonwood Christian Academy) when you’re already over the magic number, that’s 6’0, you’re all but set to play somewhere at the next level however it’s the other stuff you bring to the table that will give you more options. Athletic, can put the ball on the floor and finish but her upside is nowhere near finished
Amira Mabry-6’0 P San Antonio Finest KI WILL (Judson HS) being physical, either giving it or taking it, is a huge plus at her size and it definitely catches eyes of those at the next level, college coaches. She can punish, finish and rebounds well but her upside is definitely scary
Gabrielle Johnson-6’0 PP Cy Fair Elite 16U Gold Johnson (Stephen F Austin HS) long and athletic, loved her intensity and energy not to mention desire to play defense. She rebounds on both ends, runs the floor and attacks the basket relentlessly
