Continue ReadingThe final weekend of summer ball for a healthy slice of Kansas’ talented 2020s was spent with their clubs at The Reign the Plains MAYB exposure tournament held at Wichita Sports Forum. This is the second of three articles looking at the top 2020s from the event. The first looked at top guards. Below are notes notes top wings and small forwards from the two day event event.
Ohlde Elite 2020 Yellow’s and Topeka Seaman’s Chloe Carter and Wheat State Elite 2020 – Loecker’s and Wichita Heights’ Laniah Randle await the ball for a sideline play.Chloe Carter, 5’9″, W, Topeka Seaman, Ohlde Elite 2020 Yellow – Carter stood out with her ability to manufacture points. Repeatedly getting fouled in one game, she finished 11/14 from the line. Another game, she was 2/5 from beyond the arc. While she has a propensity to get in the air to pass, which yielded steals and layups for opponents, she is fast, has a quick first step, and is just active on the offensive end. Two game statistics show an average of 16 points, 4 rebounds.
Chariah Daniels, 5’9″, F, Wichita Southeast, BGCB 17U – Daniels had a strong tournament. She has a good motor, works hard on both ends of the floor, and is attentive on off-the-ball defense. She showed good use of her power dribble on interior moves and an effective, quick, reverse pivot. Because of her speed, quickness, and hops she caused a match-up problems for defenses. She can go end-to-end with the ball but will get out-of-control and not show perimeter vision as a result. As she becomes a greater perimeter threat she will that much tougher to stop. Three game average statistics were 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds.
Kade Hackerott, 5’8″, W, Goddard, Wheat State Elite – Ferguson (Chaos) – What Hackerott showed during the tournament is just how dangerous she is and how strong her base is. A serious perimeter threat (4/11 from three), Hackerott can score in variety of ways and absorb contact as she does. Her speed, quickness, and strength benefit her on the defensive end where she is very solid. Interestingly the match-up she struggled the most with is a similar sized, quick, and physical defender. Hackerott is committed to University of Central Missouri.
Emma Ruddle, 5’9″, W/PF, McPherson, Wheat State Elite – Ferguson (Chaos) – Ruddle won perhaps the most impressive 1-on-1 battle of the tournament when Ohlde Elite Pink 2020 set up PF Faith Paramore to challenge Ruddle to get to the basket from the near the left high elbow. Paramore tried out quick, out think, and out muscle Ruddle for 15 seconds but ultimately had to kick the ball to a shooter in the corner after only making it to just inside left elbow. Ruddle is strong, fast, and elevates and rebounds well. A perimeter threat with a quick step to the basket she also generates her share of assists. Three game average statistics were 12.6 points (2/8 from three), 3 rebounds, and three assists. Ruddle has committed to Fort Hays State University.
Emily Weathers, 5’10”, G/F, Scott City, Ohlde Elite 2020 Yellow – What Weathers showed is she can score on anyone. She can score from the perimeter, off the drive, in transition off a dish, and by elevating over a bigger defender. She sees the court well, can hit open teammates for shots, and has terrific hand speed to pick up steals. Three game statistics show an average of 13.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Weathers is committed to Emporia State University.
