While most of the major grassroots leagues have already concluded for the summer, there are still smaller tournaments taking place all over the country! One of these said tournaments took place this past weekend in Murphy, Texas. Although there were only five teams competing in the girls HS division, there was no shortage of talented players. Here are four players from the Summer Exposure Finale who deserve recognition for their stellar performances.
Gabby Robinson – 2020 5’3 PG (Cy Fair Elite 16U) Naaman Forest HS – Including pass first point guards is beginning to become a reoccurring theme in my articles. I have always been fascinated by players who choose to utilize their natural athleticism to pass rather than score. Robinson does exactly that. She has great court vision and passing instincts on offense. The ball never sticks to her. She even had a couple of flashy passes that belong on her highlight reel. Robinson also showed the ability to score off the drive, but typically opted to kick it out to a teammate for a corner three. This Cy Fair Elite squad is full of players who can consistently make shots from behind the arc, which makes her the perfect floor general for their team.
Asia Parker – 2020 6’0 G/F (Rose City Lady Warriors) John Tyler HS – The first word that comes to mind when I think of Asia Parker’s game is dominant. She has the size and ability to play any position one through four at the next level. Parker is the epitome of modern day position-less basketball. She literally does everything at a high level. Defensively, she is a lock down defender on the perimeter who likes to guard her assignment full court. She also came away with a couple of chase-down blocks in transition.
Parker is even more impressive on the offensive end. She showed the ability to make shots off the catch as well as in rhythm off the dribble. Additionally, she has the awareness to make cross court passes with ease. However, her best attribute is her ability to score off the drive. Parker finishes through contact and is virtually unstoppable when she is attacking the basket. In my opinion, she is certainly deserving of a spot on a D1 roster if she wants one. Furthermore, I think she needs to be included in our 2020 rankings when we eventually update them.
Taylor Dailey – 2022 5’5 G ( DC Queens 2022 Gold) Wylie HS – Dailey is an excellent combo guard from the 2022 class. She’s a smooth ball handler who loves to push the tempo on both ends. She has a knack for making smart decisions when the ball is in her hands, which is more than I can say for the majority of girls her age. She is equally effective when playing off the ball, showing the ability to make timely cuts and hit corner threes off the catch. The thing I loved most about Dailey was her hustle. Whether it was chasing down long rebounds or getting back on D for a chase down block, she was constantly engaged. That kind of tenacity coupled with her skill makes her a player to watch in the coming years.
Caroline Morgan – 2021 5’5 G (GTE) Celina HS – Morgan is a crafty play making combo guard. She has an understanding of spacing and game flow that is beyond her years. Her ability to create for others while still being able to get her own shots up was immediately noticeable. It’s rare to see that type of unselfishness from a star player. She was the best shooter on her team by a mile, but still showed the willingness to defer to open teammates. Morgan has a gorgeous release on her jump shot. When she is left open, she is a lights out shooter from deep. She can score at the rim as well. This was evident after I saw her go coast to coast and convert an and one off the inbound pass. She split time between point guard and shooting guard, but I think she operates best when playing the one.
