They lost a tough one to Desoto in the state semis but the point I’m making is that they’ve been tested, they have some heavy hitters back and maybe one of the deepest benches in the area
Maliyah JohnsonMaliyah Johnson is lone of the top 2020 players in the state, the 6’3 forward has range as well as a hard to handle inside game but her versatility is only part of the story as her length and athleticism makes her extremely hard to handle on both ends of the court and she can actually turn a game around both offensively and defensively. Several pieces to their puzzle are there, Mailyn Wilkerson, another Texas Top 100 plus 2020, can definitely open things up from the outside. She didn’t play in the event yet coached her teammates and since the game starts at the one, what she runs, that gives you a clue but I also enjoyed the heat and intensity Alayia Francis and Anna Murray show
Iyanna MotleyThe progression from several players on the squad makes this team one that can keep coming at you Kaitlyn Duhon and Jaya Burton have definitely taken their games up a notch but Iyanna Motley showed me some beast like signs throughout the summer. She’s powerful on the inside, rebounds on both ends, finishes after contact and more importantly than anything else, she plays within herself and understands her role on this talented squad but when you have a team full of players willing to do whatever it takes, just remember depth is and always will be a key
Adaora NwokejiSpeaking of key, Adora Nwokeji’s performance during Prime Time’s Summer Elite Championship catapulted her into the Texas Top 100 for the 2021 class. She brings heat on defense and relishes the challenge but she also showed she could score from mid to long range or attacking the basket. Alayna Dixon Dennis, D’Anni Bradley. Mia Thomas and Malikiya Thomas round out the players I caught from the Bulldogs at the TSU Team Camp and with several pieces being interchangeable, can they make it back to state, I wouldn’t bet against it because they’re definitely on my short list
