In this article we will take a look at which players in the Southwest Conference will be able to consistently drain those big shots for their team.
- Sydney Harris is a 6ft 2022 wing from Edwardsville. She had an outstanding freshman campaign. Sydney averaged 12.9 points per game and shot 53.3% from behind the arc. She established herself as the player ready and able to take the big shot in her freshman year. There is no stage too big for her, Sydney is confident in her ability. Sydney is deadly off the catch and shoot and is expanding her game off the dribble. With a D1 offer from SIU-C already, Sydney is definitely a player to watch.
- Macy Silvey is a 5’9 2022 guard from Edwardsville. Macy should be getting very good varsity minutes this year and will get the chance to showcase her shooting. She had an outstanding summer AAU session with her Blue Star 15u team. Her game has expanded but her ability to consistently drain the open jumper is definitely her calling card. Macy has 3 years to keep getting stronger and expand her game on both ends of the floor. She will certainly be a player on the radar of D1 and D2 coaches.
- Caite Knutson is a 5’11 2020 wing from Collinsville. Caite has drawn recognition for her all around game over the last year. She was a very valuable player for SI Hawks Elite 17u team this spring/summer. Caite has really improved her ability to score at all levels and should produce even higher than her 12 points per game from last year. The ability to hit the mid range jumper and expanded ability to hit the 3 will make her a force each night for the Kahoks.
- Bria James is a 5’7 2020 guard from Belleville East. Bria will be depended on to play a much bigger role in her senior campaign. As a junior she was able to hit 1 shot per game from the 3 point line and shoot a respectable 38%. With the top 5 scorers graduated there will be more chances for Bria to show off her shot and ability to score at all levels. Loos for her to have a big year and burst on the radar of NAIA,D3 and JUCO coaches.
- Destiney Coleman is a 5’7 2022 guard from East St. Louis. Destiney is the top shooter returning in the program for new coach Shardae Butler. She showed her ability on the lower levels as a freshman and is primed for a breakout sophomore campaign. She made big strides during the summer session and is working hard to prepare to be a go to player for Coach Butler.
- Kylie Burg is a 5’9 2020 wing from Edwardsville. Kylie transferred in from out of state prior to her junior campaign and worked her way in to the rotation right away. She is a physically strong player that can battle in multiple positions on the floor. Her best skill is definitely her shooting. Kylie hit 50% overall from the floor including 51% from 3 point range. Her volume of shots should increase this year as a senior and she could have a big senior season. Kylie is a player that should be tracked by NAIA,D3 and JUCO schools as she could contribute at the college level.
- Reese Bennett is a 5’7 2022 guard from Belleville West. Reese started every game as a freshman and learned some tough lessons in the SWC. She has grown stronger and more savvy over the past year. Reece was able to find her spots to hit from the outside last year, but looks to really expand her scoring this year. The year of playing in the tough conference taught her alot and she comes prepared for a strong sophomore campaign.
Edwardsville has many girls that can hit the 3 which is part of why they are a strong team. The other teams in the conference all have girls capable of getting hot. As you can see from this article there is a crop of great young talent with 4 kids in the 2022 class mentioned here. It should be fun watching these girls along many others show off their ability to hit the outside shot this season.
