The goal of the wrap up series was to highlight the players of AZ. Our team reached out to every club in state and some responded, some didn’t. Thank you to Team Arizona for partaking in our series!
Roster:
Emma Besirevic- JR, Mesquite
Combo Guard. Very quick and tough competitor. Very active defensively and makes a lot of corner threes.
Liz Cruz- SR, Casteel
Small Forward. Tremendous athlete who really flashed when completely healthy. Multiple double doubles. Interest from all levels.
Tanna Decker- SR, Camp Verde
Point Guard who protects and shoots the ball well. Seems to have true love for the sport and is self motivated. A number of coaches came to watch her at our last tournament in Orange County, CA.
Rachel Early- JR, Dobson
Versatile combo guard who is both a leader and competitor. Flashed at times. Likes to get to the free throw line.
Alaya Fitzgerald- JR, Mesquite
Plays every position. Division-1 prospect. True team player who played inside for the benefit of team. Has developed some nice post moves to go along with her guard skills. Alaya clearly belonged when playing against the best competition.
Irelyn Humphries- JR, Desert Ridge
Point guard and 3 point shooter who can get as hot as anyone. She’s entering her third year as the starting point guard for Desert Ridge.
Kaycee Kimball- SR, ALA-Queen Creek
Combo Guard. Beautiful high-arcing shot that continues to improve each day due to her noticeable work ethic. Had a number of memorable sequences this summer with steals and back to back threes.
Airiana Madanski- SR, Highland
Small Forward. Most consistent player on team. Started almost every game. Never looked overmatched, matched up well against elite competition.
Gabriela Solis JR, Mesquite
She’s quick, lengthy, and very active defensively with her steals and deflections. Seems to be on the receiving end of a lot of backdoor cuts resulting in layups. Consistently hits mid range baseline jumper.
Tournaments:
Frisco, TX- The Super 64
Chicago, IL- Nike TOC
Ladera Ranch, CA- EOT Summer Swoosh
With only nine players on the roster, all the girls were able to play significantly. The season was one of ups and downs. They tied for first in Chicago, but did not have the same success in California. Struggled against teams with size, a trait this team lacked. Team would flash at times and look really tough, but consistency was an issue. Look for all of the girls to be major contributors on their high school teams, as many of them are already returning All-Region players.
