The camp is hosted by Assistant Director of Girls Basketball Sully Carter and I must say he did a fantastic job with the girls in this event. They were led in the drills by the west coast elite staff and the numerous college coaches that were participating in this event. Dribbling, shooting, passing and some defensive work had the girls going hard and it was great to see that effort on the floor by all of the girls. Parents were wrangled out in the lobby as the kids warmed up and they were explained the steps to getting their child recruited by a high academic school. We were told that the camp had 108 girls registered for the camp and the numbers in the picture above tells the story, kids were out here participating and having fun. We thought the following girls were standouts for this event on day one and day two, here they are as followed.
Day One Standouts:
2023, 6’0, CG, Windward HS, Judea Watkins is as dynamic as it comes for her size and body type, she can shoot and score from all three levels and is quite active on the floor. She defends using her long lanky body and showed us some true athletic ability with some acrobatic layups in the game. High Major kid if I ever saw one, this was the third time watching her and she is improving at a very steady rate, would not want to see her max out anytime soon.
2024, 5’8, SG, Windward HS, Serenity Johnson has a college body right now, she is big for a guard, defends like a dog, and is one of the toughest girls on the court and anytime. She shoots the three ball with consistency, makes layups thru contact and can bump you on the drive and finish off the glass. Her biggest trait to me as an evaluator is her ability to be so mature on the floor and act like she has seen it all before, young players are not built that way, but she is, really impressive.
2022, 5’3, PG, Narbonne HS, Mikaela Robinson is a scrappy player that has some overall talent, the one that impressed me this weekend is her ability to defend. A coach is always has a spot for an elite defender and at her height, she sits down and gets under you so she can take the ball. She can shoot the midrange and hit a three or two, but her defensive side of the ball was perfect.
2020, 6’0, SF, Dominguez HS, Leigha Harris is the lanky long wing guard that every coach in the country would like to have. She can handle the rock, she can shoot the rock and she is an elite rebounder and putback artist. She always makes the right play, she was a PG in her former boby, but after growing a foot in a summer, you now have a genuine point-forward as they say. She knocks down the three, the midrange and finishes at the rim, but her most impressive trait on the floor is that she has perfect vision as a passer, always hits the right player.
Day Two Standouts:
2020, 5’8, SG, Heritage Christian HS, Heaven Ramos is a scrappy guard with some attitude, she is not afraid of anything or anyone on the floor. She knocks down the shot from midrange and is a great teammate on the floor, she will be one of the leaders for Heritage Christian this year. Her defensive side of the ball could stand some improvement, but she is decent in staying in front of her opponents and forcing them to the help.
2022, 5’7. SG, Liberty HS (NV), Sakura Bradley is that do it all guard with a great energy about her game. When I watched her play, she was everywhere on the floor, diving for balls, running people down for blocks and also going by defenders for layups. She shot it consistently as I watched, her handle is decent and she is quite quick off the dribble. I really like her spirit and team leadership on the floor.
2021, 5’7, CG. Pennwood (PA), Raquel Curry is sort of a surprise, she is crafty, sneaky-type player that would have about 15+ points before you know she was ever scoring in a game. She can shoot it, can make acrobatic layups thru contact, she is also very good with the ball and can rebound for her size. Her defense is good, she keeps the opponent in front and always forces them to the help.
