When asked about this past AAU season, Darrione said “I think this AAU season was the best one I’ve had throughout my whole career, for a number of reasons. The team I played with (Mac Irvin Fire) was an amazing group on and off the court. We pushed each other to be one of the top teams in the country, and we all believed in one another. Also, my coach, Mac, had a major part of my accomplishments this summer. He allowed me to play my style of basketball and trusted me as a player.”
The 5’11’’ Guard from Lake Park is a natural scorer at all levels. Her ability to knock down shots from deep, both off the dribble and spotting up, is as good as anyone in the area. When driving the ball, she uses a great combination of strength and control to take advantage of any and all defenders.
I asked Darrione what she saw as the strengths in her game, and she said “I think my ability to score the ball in so many ways is a major strength in my game. Also, my defense being able to switch on either bigs or smaller guards. I think this season I really improved on being more aggressive”
With her quickness, size, and strength, Darrione is such an asset on defense. She guards the ball well and makes it tough on opposing players to get around her to get open looks at the basket. Down in the post, she matches up well with taller Forwards and makes them really work to get clean looks.
When asked what she is looking to improve on going into Senior year, Darrione said “I want to improve on being a better leader and making smarter decisions while being double or triple-teamed this high school season.”
The Recruiting Process
“I’d been getting recruited by DePaul since I was in 7th or 8th grade. I always knew I would love to go play for a Hall of Fame coach. I chose DePaul because of Doug and the coaching staffs’ loyalty towards me. I tore my ACL Freshmen year and they never changed I knew then that was the place I wanted to be.”
