Most of the kids mentioned in this article, I’ve seen numerous times and one thing I constantly talk about is progression and these young ladies were a few of the players I caught at the Tyrone Johnson Showcase that continue to just bring it and expand their games as well as a first look at some
Caitlyn P:anucoCaitlyn Panuco-PG (Lady Wolfpack) explosive scorer that can simply take over a game offensively, multiple ways. She shoots the three and the midrange well, creates her shot under pressure, handles the ball the same way and finishes strong after contact. She also understands the importance of getting teammates involved and controls tempo nicely but her desire, on both ends, stands out over and over
Jamayria Ramsey-PG (Austin Elite Fire) don’t blink because you might miss something and when you’re a speedy guard, with the ball, who’s under control that’s huge. She hits teammates on the money while pushing the ball in transition yet she can run a squad as a vocal leader. Mid to long range keeps adding to what she brings to the table yet that first step sets same table because it gives her numerous options
Asani McGee-F (Lady Thunder) first look at this athletic wing that simply goes after everything on the boards. She plays the passing lane and defends baseline to baseline yet she showed she could guard taller players with nice footwork and timing, as well as score off the dribble or facing the basket. Plenty of upside
Jakayla ThompsonJakayla Thompson-PG (Rock Nation 2022 Red) can play both the 1 or the 2 effectively and her athleticism is key for both positions as she handles and applies pressure, attacks from everywhere and her stop and pop on the money creates numerous problems for defenders as she elevates over many on her jumper. Her passes are crisp and on the money and she gets “it”
Madison Sloan-F (Lady Rhythm) first look at her as I glanced from afar and saw this long, athletic player going completely off. As I moved in closer, she controlled the game defensively, blocking shots, rebounding and throwing outlets plus she ran the floor to finish after igniting the break
Kennedy Curtis-SG ( CC Thunder Varsity White) hadn’t seen her since elementary school on video but after watching her watch her older sister perform over the years, just that told me something. Athletic, with a devastating first step and to add fuel to the fire, she shot the midrange consistently. Good defender and plenty of upside remaining
Alex Neimeth-SG (Rock Nation 2022 Red) her jump from last year is exactly what I mean about progression. I was impressed when I first saw her because she got hers “in the flow” and filled up the stat sheet but her poise has taken off and it showed when she had to run the point in the championship game after a player got hurt. Not only did she run it to a tee, she also scored and made plays in the clutch to help team seal victory
