St. Paul’s School for Girls
From the start of the game, it was evident SPSG’s aggressive and versatile guards would put the Marriotts Ridge High School team to the test in a 44-29 victory. Despite the Gators only having six players compared to Marriott Ridge’s 11 girls, SPSG established a sizable lead early on. SPSG’s standout players included, #21 Shawn Jones, a sophomore at Thomas Johnson High School, who finished with who finished with 15 points, and #1 Julie Rose, a senior at Loch Raven High School, finished with 11 points. Rose is currently committed to play lacrosse at the University of Cincinnati. #7 Espirit Cha, junior (3 points), #24 Lauryn Kasten, sophomore, (2 points), and Laurie Satchell, sophomore (8 points), were the only players on SPSG who will be playing for that school in the high school season hoping to defend their IAAM B Conference Title.
Blue Angels
Out of the gate, the Blue Angels set the tone of the game with their skilled guard play, beating the Lady Raiders 72-22. #4 Destiny Ryles, senior guard of St. Paul’s School for Girls, was the Blue Angels leading scorer, finishing with 12 points. A premier AAU team in the area, you can expect this Blue Angels squad to terrorize opponents with their skilled offensive play and consistent defense.
Old Mill High School
Defeating Glenelg High School handily, 53-9, Old Mill High School made it clear that they will be a threat to many teams in this league. Showing their versatility, Old Mill proved they could score from all spots on the court with players with strong driving ability, including #4 who finished with 12 points, and #1 who led the team with her jump shot. Old Mill guards showed their exceptional court vision, effectively feeding their teammates in the post, finishing inside. Old Mill’s threatening inside-outside game will certainly pose a challenge to teams in the future.
Baltimore Polytechnic Institute
Always a standout, this top Baltimore city team showed that this year will be no different in their 46-18 victory over Mt. de Sales. With explosive ball handlers such as #8 and #12, and shooters #4, Poly proved they are a threat from the perimeter, as well as on the inside. Poly forward #9, often bested Mt. de Sales defenders with her punishing drop step, finishing with 13 points.
St. Vincent Pallotti High School
Pallotti showed they are a force to be reckoned with, handily defeating Atholton High School, 82-43. Standout player, #35, dominated the game on both ends of the floor. A consistent shooter, she was a key scorer for Pallotti. #35’s consistent hustle showed itself in her defense, often forcing Atholton turnovers, with several steals and rebounds. #41 also showed solid guard play for Atholton. All around, all players had consistent hustle and the team’s chemistry on the floor was apparent.
