On the campus of Withrow High School university 45 young ladies showed up and showed out. They had a really great thing going and the energy was in the air. 2018 coach of the year Jamar Mosley (Purcell Marian) stated ” I can’t believe that it is this lively tonight! ” as the girls cheered on there teammates on the court.
The young ladies really came out , played hard , and left it all on the court . But in my eyes these are the the top guards who dominated the night.
Sydnee Sheppard (Junior) from Walnut Hills High school had a small frame ,but was very explosive of the bounce. Very selective in her play-making ability this allowed her to be very precise in her decision making. She got to the rim with power and if a bigger defender stepped it was almost always an assist. Didn’t show much from the shooting angle but was very impressed with her ability to get to the rim and make the right decision consistently.
Keianna Sheridan (Junior) of Sycamore High School was all over the floor! From getting loose balls, to making big time pull-ups, she controlled the games .Shorter but stronger guard would make moves and would get right down the line for and one buckets. Used jab steps to create space and was great in off ball action.
Darian Burgin (Senior) of Walnut Hills had a motor of a raging bull. She got to the bucket, she shot the mid-range, she was crafty with the ball, and she could just flat out play. Played the game with a chip on her shoulder and she did not back down from any challenge. Burgin was maybe one the best on the court at all times. Very impressed with her bounce . She would rebound the ball as it was coming off the rim standing at about 5’9”. Don’t leave her open or she would make you pay then smile as she gets back to defense .
Anna Cardwell (Senior) of Hamilton High School came with the right game plan. She took shots only when she knew she could hit them. She drove the gap with purpose and always was willing to make the extra pass. The veteran guard was poised and didn’t let the pressure get to her and played with high energy. Her ability to create space and her motor allowed her to put the ball in the rim at ease. Her foot work with the ball is what got my attention. She puts a lot of detail in the little things and it shows. Very crafty
Jariyah Burnett (Freshman) of Taft High school was a little wet behind the ears but she knew how to score. The 6 footer was long and had some flubber on the bottom of her soles. She pushed the ball with pace after a defensive rebound. Created driving lanes off the dribble and would finish around or through the contact. Very impressed with her IQ of the games as she loved to get her team involved as much as she could.
