Member schools have strong girls basketball programs, a few of which have made appearances in the state tournament in the last few years. Two big rivalries in South Lakes/Herndon and Langley/McLean will be exciting to watch, but here’s five players I anticipate having big seasons:
Leila Copeland PG (South Lakes, 2020)
Still unsigned (surprisingly), the quick-footed PG and one of NINE seniors on the roster this winter will look to help South Lakes cut nets as a team that made it to both the district and regional final and fell short both times. Expect her to be a pivotal piece in any run the Seahawks makes at a district title and more.
Maddie Kimble (Herndon, 2020)
Another rising senior who’s junior season saw seven games with 15 or more points including a 30 point outburst against TC Williams. Kimble earned first team All-District honors. She’ll look to help Herndon get back into the top of the district after finishing with an under-.500 record last season.

Mia Fitzgerald (McLean, 2022)
Fitzgerald scored in double figures four times as a freshman, one of two on the team that won the district title this past February. The 5’9 forward/guard will do a little bit of everything in her sophomore campaign as one of McLean’s key players and improve on steady numbers from her first season to help the Highlanders repeat.
Kylie Allen (Langley, 2021)
Allen definitely didn’t slump in her sophomore season, scoring in double figures in eight games for the Saxons. In her junior season, she will be a key factor in helping Langley get back to having an above .500 record after being under last season, despite making it to the state finals in 2018.
Maddie Winer (Yorktown, 2020)
The rising senior PG will be running Yorktown’s offense for a team that finished just over .500 last season and got knocked out early in District play. Expect her to be one of the leading scorers for the patriots this winter.
