Trinity Klock (Paint Branch High School, 2020, #4): With her hybrid style of play, this uncommitted senior will not be under the radar for long. Klock dominated the floor for the MD Shooting Stars 2020 with 10 points in her team’s 53-31 victory over PV Thunder 17U. Unafraid to handle the ball against swift guards and also to battle in the paint, Klock plays purely smart basketball. Using her size against smaller defenders while attacking the basket with her strong repertoire of post moves, Klock’s intelligence on the court makes her style of play menacing to defenders and nearly impossible to score on.
Aniya Gourdine (St. Frances Academy, 2021, #1): Despite her guard-sized stature, Gourdine “plays big.” Showcasing her ability to score from the perimeter as well as from the paint, Gourdine finished with 13 points in SFA’s victory over the Scorpions. She plays like a leader on the floor for SFA, despite missing key SFA players, Gourdine has no problem filling all roles—handling the ball as well as battling for rebounds. Even when SFA had a sizable lead, her effort both inside and outside was unwavering. No doubt Gourdine will come in clutch this season as her team is a favorite to reclaim their IAAM A Conference title.
Megan Matsko (Mt. de Sales Academy, 2020, #12): On a team of small, scrappy guards, this tall, lanky shooting guard/small forward is unafraid of battling with limber guards or post players alike. As one of the largest players on MDS’ under-sized roster, it appears Matsko has had to assume playing in the post. She has subsequently translated her scrappy guard skills to out-hustling larger opponents for rebounds, put-backs, and often, even wrestling for the ball on the floor in a tie-up. Her offensive game is likewise inspired by the same intensity– Matsko is a natural attacker. It is obvious she is a leader on the floor, for her aggressive style of play and untiring energy is contagious.
