Continue ReadingAs I reminisce about PassThaBall’s I-45 Shootout and the six all star games, I remember many of the young ladies who participated in it as early as elementary school, well some are still in it as I type, but the latter games, especially the one that closed it out, but the six mentioned were all spotted by me before they played their first middle school game. My first look at Bridget Utberg (Georgia) and Zyanna Walker (Kansas) didn’t take me long to realize what I was looking at, both are D1 prospects and I keep stressing over and over, talent is everywhere if you know what you’re looking at
Tionna WarrenTionna Herron-P- she is one of the most coveted players in her class and at 6’5, I have certainly enjoyed watching her progression on the court from just a defensive stopper that blocked shots in elementary school to a player that can dominate the game from both ends. Soft touch in the paint, she also faces the basket effortlessly and efficiently and watching her ignite the break with a block and finish on the other end is priceless
R’mani Taylor-PG-showed poise as a fourth grader and handling the ball under control and comprehending things many seniors weren’t getting sold me. Her passes are crisp and on the money, she attacks the basket smoothly and finishes with contact and her range is unlimited, meaning around the time line or from another time zone and what really impresses me is her unselfishness and understanding the importance of getting teammates involved
Carleigh WenzelCarleigh Wenzel-G- BCS offers on the table are not uncommon for big guards that can shoot and can she shoot. Her picture perfect jumper has always been there and it can change the momentum of a game because she brings it no matter what the situation. Under pressure, she feels none and her performances over the years in the clutch have been something to see. She’s attacking the basket stronger and finishing the same way and her mindset is to keep coming at you
Madison Cockrell-G-the jumps she makes each year have been overly impressive, yes she was good the first time I saw her and showed next level potential with her energy, athleticism and bringing heat on defense and being of those “never takes a play off” type of players, everything else just started to fill in. Her mid to long range is smooth, she creates off the dribble to either take the jumper or blow by defenders and her upside is still scary
Jazzy Owens-BarnettJazzy Owens-Barnett-PG-she defies gravity at times, always did but I always loved her “wanting the ball” down the stretch. Her emotions never change, she’s ice on the court and with her powerful frame, she can punish on both ends. Loves playing passing lane, rebounds against taller players but her offensive tools are second to none as she mixes it up nicely to keep defenders guessing. As she “glides” into her sophomore year in high school, I’m guessing even more surprises are in store
Breanna Davis-PG- exploded off the ground for her jumper the first time I saw her and that in itself was enough for me as she was able to pick and choose where she wanted to take it from. Good hesitation is always great when you know to use it, she did and continues to show she can make things happen, quickly. Her pull-up in transition, her fade away jumper, her step back and all of this combined with a smooth crossover enables her to score in droves
