The second article in a series of 73 highlights the players who go and make their living on the boards. Let’s hop in and see who the top returning qualifying rebounders (in terms of rebounds per game) will be for the upcoming season.
Kelsey Fields — 6’1 C — 2021 — Creston
*14.1 RPG*
Fields returns as the state’s leading rebounder from last year, no matter the grade. She’s a very physical player down in the post and has great hands. Her mobility and hands allow her to coral pretty much every ball that comes off the rim her way. While she led the state in rebounds per game, she sat in second on the total rebounds list tied with Foley (below). She is going to have another really good year getting her hands on the ball this season.
Kenzie Foley — 6′ PF — 2020 — Sergeant Bluff-Luton
*13.5 RPG*
Foley was really solid this past year at grabbing rebounds. She is a really athletic and mobile post who can go up and grab the ball at its highest point. Foley has all the makings of being a really good rebounder again this year with added athleticism. She had an insane 141 offensive rebounds this past season. Foley is committed to play volleyball at Saint Cloud State.
Sharon Goodman — 6’2 C — 2020 — Crestwood
*12.8 RPG*
Goodman is going to be right up at the top in the state’s best rebounders once again this upcoming season. She has great hands around the basket, she plays really hard, and she can simply move players in the post. Once the shot goes up Goodman is always fighting for position — she usually wins it too. She’s committed to Iowa. (Featured Image)
Haley Hoch — 5’9 PF — 2022 — Twin Cedars
*12.4 RPG*
Hoch is an avid rebounder for this Twin Cedars team. The top returning freshman rebounder in the state, you can only expect these numbers to rise. Hoch pulled in a couple double doubles last year and will look to up both totals this season. She’s the ultra competitor and Twin Cedars will lean on her rebounding this season.
Chloe Lofstrom — 5’11 PF — 2020 — North Union
*12.2 RPG
Lofstrom is such a treat to watch play. She is skilled around the basket and has an incredibly strong lower base. This allows her to carve out space under the basket really well for rebounds. Lofstrom also will go get those shots that come off of the basket away from her using her athleticism. She is committed to Morningside.
Amanda Chizek — 6′ PF — 2020 — West Hancock
*11.9 RPG*
Chizek is kind of an under-the-radar player as she doesn’t play travel ball. A tough and hard-working kid, Chizek led the state last year with 320 total rebounds. Chizek is one of the most fun post players in the state to watch because of her gritty style. She has a ton of strength as well allowing her to pull down pretty much every rebound. She’s committed to Grand View.
Brooklyn Meyer — 6’1 PF — 2022 — West Lyon
*11.8 RPG*
Meyer is a player, who like Chizek, not many people know about in the state. Being in the northwest corner of the state and playing for an out-of-state AAU team, Meyer probably doesn’t have the avenues to be known through the state. However, she’s one of the top 2022’s in the state, has a host of D1 offers already, and will see a nice bump in the updated rankings. Look for her to continue her rebounding dominance.
Jordan Kuper — 6’2 C — 2020 — Monticello
*11.2 RPG*
Kuper is one of the top rebounders throughout the state consistently with her bounciness and willingness to mix it up on the inside. She has the ability to high point the ball as it comes off the rim really well as well as get the ball moving back up the floor. She’s a really solid basketball prospect but she’s committed to play volleyball at Sioux Falls.
Lilly Isenhour — 5’9 PF — 2022 — Prince of Peace
*11.1 RPG*
Isenhour is a solidly built interior player who just seems to get perfect position under the basket whenever the shot goes up. She is a hound on the offensive glass and was one of two players last season who had over 200 total rebounds and had more offensive than defensive boards. She had 109 offensive rebounds and 102 defensive rebounds last season.
Krystal Van Dyke — 6′ C — 2021 — Lynnville-Sully
*11.0 RPG*
Van Dyke is the last player on this list and still ended the season with 243 rebounds, good for an 11 per game average. Her IQ is really solid and it seems as if she can sense where the ball is falling off the rim before it even does. She’s going to be another big component to this Lynnville-Sully team and her rebounding is going to be paramount.
