The youngsters did not disappoint and we identified several candidates for the annual Girls Middle School All Star game in March. The 2024 Maryland Lady TIgers showed up to play Western’s JV/8th grade team, and in a battle of 2026 (6th) teams, Power Move took on the Maryland Lady Tigers in an overtime thriller. Here are some of the standouts from the day…
Kaylan Battle, MD Lady Tigers, 2024 Guard
Kaylan caught my eye with her exceptional defensive footwork. She used quick lateral movement to frustrate ball handlers trying to advance it up the court. Her footwork combined with her length and speed make her a candidate to get some prominent minutes next season at Westminster where she is heading. Offensively she has a nice form on her 3 point attempts so she could grow into a steady perimeter shooter. Her handle is solid and she has a good first step on her drives. I’m looking forward to watching her develop.
Caliyah Devillasee, MD Lady Tigers, 2024 Point Guard
I really like watching Ms. Devillasee play. She is the complete package on offense and her defense is emerging too. If you like point guards with flair she should be at the the top of your list in her class. She is a nasty ball handler with crossovers and hesitation moves in her bag. She is a strong finisher and is a terror in the open court. She knocked down some corner threes in the team’s route of Western’s JV team.
Makenzie McCracken, Power Move, 2026 Power Forward
Makenzie is a lot of fun to watch. Her style is definitely in the “bully ball” category as she is solidly built and not afraid to move bodies around. Her physical play helped her team pull out the overtime win as she made hustle plays on the boards and knocked down some big shots, including a late dagger three.
Makenzie Singletary, Power Move, 2026 Point Guard
Makenzie came up huge in the 6th grade battle. Any time you make five of nine three point attempts you will get some attention. Makenzie is not just a shooter though. She handled the press all day by mostly dribbling through the pressure, and made good decisions with the ball. She got into the lane a number of times and was able to score on short floaters and lay ups.
