Continue ReadingEvery program is built on the reloading of their system with new talent every year. Seniors will lead the team and teach the younger kids the way. In this article I will give you a glimpse into the future of the conference. I will try to give you some names to watch that have not been a critical part of the program so far, but could be this year and into the future.
- Alyssa Powell is a 5’10 2022 forward from triad. Alyssa played varsity minutes last year, but served more as a complimentary piece. She will take on a much bigger role in her sophomore year. In addition she will play more facing the basket to take advantage of her athleticism. Alyssa is explosive and should be excellent in attacking the basket. She will continue to active on the offensive boards and get easy baskets that way. Alyssa will be counted on to deliver for the program over her next 3 years.
- Krista Rittenhouse is 5’8 2022 wing from Highland. Krista will get varsity minutes this year on a very experienced Highland team. She will show her athletic ability on motor that make her special. Krista can hit the 3 when left open but excels as a slasher. She is tough and hustles not stop. Coach Hamilton has compared her to former Highland great Rece Portell.
- Maura Niemeier is a 5’7 2022 guard from Civic Memorial. Maura played a big role at the end of last year for CM. She lands on this list because I believe she is just touching the surface of who she can be. Maura is already one of the top defenders in the area. She really showed improvement in the off season in her offensive game. With another unfortunate injury to junior Hannah Sontag the Lady Eagles will need Maura to continue her growth.
- Sophia Loden is a 5’10 2023 forward from Mascoutah. Sophia is an excellent rebounder that plays with a big motor. She is expanding her game by working to improve her ability to play facing the basket. Sophia has the potential to be an excellent player on both ends of the court. Sophia is already a very versatile player that can play multiple positions..
- Ashlyn Hughes is a 6’3 2023 post from Mascoutah. Ashlyn has the potential to be a dominant post player. She has a solid skill set. Ashlyn has excellent timing and averaged 3 blocks per game in June. She can finish around the basket and has a good mid range shot.
- Ella Beckhorn is a 5’10 2022 forward from Waterloo. Ella has great footwork in the lane and a nice touch. She started every game in the 2nd half of the season and improved every game. Ella had double figures in points each of the last 4 games and was playing her best ball as the season ended. She upside is sky high.
- Claire Christeson is a 6’0 2022 forward from Civic Memorial. Claire had an excellent off season. She was an offensive force at times with Si Hawks Elite 16u team. Claire will be in the rotation with the posts. She is very long and uses that length well on defense and rebounding.
- Kelbie Zupan is a 5’5 2022 guard from Civic Memorial. Kelbie has a knack for scoring the basketball. She can hit the 3 or take you off the dribble. Kelbie plays tough and does not back down to anyone. Her ability to score the basketball will be a great weapon off the bench.
The young talent in the MVC is impressive. It will be interesting to watch these girls develop. The future of the conference is bright. All of these girls will have the chance to do big things this year so I look forward to watching them respond in key moments.
