One of the state’s most talented classes just finished their freshman year, and it is one of the best classes that the state has seen in a while. Today, we’re going to take a look at the perimeter players of the class of 2022:
Aniah Wayne (All Nebraska Attack/ Omaha Central)- Wayne is an explosive, athletic scoring wing who can score either off the bounce or from the perimeter, and her strength with the ball at 5’8″ is hard to find. A perfect compliment to her teammate Claire Williams, Wayne is a good defender who creates alot of offense from her defense. As Wayne grows into her body, her game will also continue to evolve and grow.
Bailey Kissinger (Team Factory/ Hastings St. Cecilia High School)- Perhaps one of the best all around players in the 2022 class, Kissinger was the leading scorer for a team that finished 23-1 last season, averaging almost 13 points a game. Kissinger is a 5’9″ lefty combo guard who is a downhill driver that can also light it up from the perimeter. She already has an offer from Nebraska-Kearney in hand, with Division I’s South Dakota, Omaha and UM-Kansas City also showing interest.
Bella Keaton (All Nebraska Attack/ Fremont High School)- An outstanding defender who attacks the ball well for ANA and the Tigers of Fremont, Keaton is a 5’7″ wing player who is aggressive and creates chaos for 94 feet. Keaton is a very good catch and shooter perimeter player who needs to continue to work on creating off the bounce to really open up her overall offensive game.
Claire Williams (Omaha Sports Academy/ Omaha Central)- A 5’5″ left-handed point guard, this crafty, pass first point guard is a blur on the floor. One of the fastest players in the state going from end to end, Williams excels in the open court and finishes well around the rim. Working diligently on her perimeter shooting, Williams selflessness is something that all coaches desire in a true point guard.
Kailyn Scott (Nebraska Pride/ Broken Bow High School)- A tenacious defender who loves to work opposing ball handlers for 94 feet, Kailyn Scott is a key glue player for both her high school and club teams. Averaging 6.5 points per game as a freshman, Scott is a knock-down shooter from the three point line. As she develops her game, her off the bounce game should improve. One to watch in central Nebraska for sure.
Kya Scott (Nebraska Pride/ Broken Bow High School)- Scott was the second leading scorer for a young Broken Bow team last season as a freshman, averaging almost 11 points a game. An outstanding shooter who is also a solid defender, Scott might be a one of the best spot up shooters in the state. Scott is also a very good defender with very quick hands. Kya Scott will be a key cog in the success both her high school and club program for the next three seasons.
Megan Belt (Team Factory/ Millard South)- A freshman starter for the #1 seed at last year’s Class A state tournament regular Millard South, Belt averaged 5.2 points a game as a complimentary player to an outstanding team. Megan is a solid shooter who can also get to the rim; at 5’7″, she is a true three-level scorer. A point guard at heart, this combo guard is getting attention from alot of MIAA schools, and is also starting to catch the eye of low-level Division I schools.
Reilly Palmer (Omaha Sports Academy/ Elkhorn High School)- Reilly was a rotation player on a state tournament team from Elkhorn High School last season, and she is gearing up for a great sophmore season. Palmer is a three-level scorer who is strong and excels at getting to the rim. A 5’8″ wing player right now, Palmer needs to improve her ball handling to continue to develop her overall game. Palmer has a chance to be one of the best wing players in the state by the time her career is over.
Taryn Wharton (Team Factory/ Bellevue West)- A lightning fast point guard from a basketball family, Taryn is a 5’6″ point guard with a tremendous basketball IQ. An explosive athlete with an outstanding first step, Wharton will continue to add layers to her offensive game. After her first full summer of playing basketball, she already has interest from Nebraska-Kearney, Hillsdale (MI) and local interest from Creighton. Definitely a player to keep an eye on.
