The Mustangs graduate two all-league players, but there are a number of solid returners back in the fold, giving the team hope for another strong season.
GO-TO PLAYER: Jadyn Feist
Feist averaged just less than eight points and seven rebounds per game as a sophomore and her combination of efficiency and activity level make her a capable double-double threat heading into her upperclass seasons. If she can be consistent, she’ll be among the best forwards in the EDC.
BREAKOUT CANDIDATE: Joely Goodiron
Goodiron was a role player a year ago, averaging just less than six points per game while serving as one of the team’s top 3-point shooters and a solid defender. She’ll have a bigger opportunity this season and if she can increase her efficiency a little further as a shooter, she’ll have the chance to put up solid scoring numbers.
QUESTIONS: How do players adapt to new roles?
The Mustangs return five players who saw rotation minutes a year ago but the two best players on the team are gone. Maggie Manson and Yasmina Dokara combined to average nearly 30 points per game and led the team in assists. Those two were the unquestioned go-to players, taking the big shots and making the big plays. Can girls who played bit roles step into more prominent ones?
OUTLOOK
The Mustangs return quite a bit of experience as Feist, Paige Johnson and Brittani Huseth all return after starting last season. With a solid group of other returners also back, West Fargo Sheyenne has the requisite talent to contend for a top-four spot in the EDC.
