Over the next two days, we will take a look at several of the top 25 who saw their stock rise. That will be followed by a look at some of the honorable mention who enter the rankings during this update.
MaKayla Elmore (Hopewell-Loudon) – Elmore – our 3rd ranked player in the Class of 2021 – is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. Her size and skill allows her to pull bigs out to the perimeter, but she can also go play on the block against smaller defenders. She is a tremendous athlete, who has no problem finishing through contact around the rim. MaKayla is going to make a big-time college or university extremely happy for 4 years.
Madison Royal-Davis – show above; Photo Credit – Toledo Blade (Toledo Christian) – After a year in which she earned 1st-Team All-Ohio honors and helped Toledo Rogers to their second consecutive state championship, Madison Royal-Davis has skyrocketed up the PGH Ohio rankings, leapfrogging to #6 in her class. Madison averaged nearly 18 PPG last season for Rogers, but shocked many in the Toledo area with her transfer announcement late in the summer. She will be playing this season at Toledo Christian – the D1 recruit will be forced to sit out the 2nd half of the year and the OHSAA tournament due to transfer restrictions.
Athena Hocevar (West Geauga) – Prior to her sophomore season of HS, Hocevar transferred from Gilmour Academy to West Geauga. Due to OHSAA transfer rules, Athena was only able to play in the first half of the season – missing the stretch run and post-season play. During her time on the court, the D1 prospect made a huge impact, averaging 15.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. After an outstanding spring/summer season, Hocevar has moved up the PGH Ohio rankings to #22 in the Class of 2021.
Karli Anker (Akron Manchester) – Coming in at #24 in the Class of 2021, Karli Anker is a top 12-15 guard in the state of Ohio. A dynamic playmaker in the Pick and Roll, Karli is also a very underrated athlete – who rebounds and defends at a high level from her lead guard spot. Anker is as good of a passer/creator as there is in Northeast Ohio.
