Over the next few days, the PGH Ohio staff will take a look at some of the top players ranked in the 2022 class.
Chance Gray – pictured above; Photo Credit – Lakota West HS (Lakota West) – Lakota West has had their fair share of prime-time performers over the years. Anyone who saw Chance Gray play last season would agree that she is next on that storied list. Gray is a playmaker with slick handles. She finishes well at the rim with both hands – using her athleticism to get into the paint whenever she wants. Gray checks in at #4 on this year’s rankings for the Class of 2022 – she has star written all over her.
Lanae Riley (Akron Hoban) – After a freshman season where she burst onto the scene and helped lead her Akron St. Vincent St. Mary’s team to the State Final 4, Riley shocked many across Ohio when she enrolled at Akron Hoban for her sophomore campaign. The 4/5 has the size and skill-set to score on the block, but is also able to step out and knock down mid-range jumpers and 3-point attempts consistently. She is a big-time college prospect who is slated at #7 in our rankings.
Allison Basye (Huntington Ross) – Allison Basye – who is #9 in this year’s rankings – may have benefitted more than any other player in her class during the exposure season. After earning All-Ohio honors as a freshman, Allison dominated at a number of individual and team exposure events. Her efforts were noticed from a number of college coaches in the region and now Basye has multiple Division 1 offers. An off-guard, she scores at will in a variety of ways and plays with a tenacious and competitive attitude that is truly fun to watch.
Emma Dretke (Massillon Jackson) – Dretke is another interesting prospect from Northeast Ohio, playing her HS ball at Massillon Jackson High School. She did not have the exposure season that many other players on this list enjoyed, but her HS season at Jackson – in which she earned All-Ohio honors in the brutal Federal League – did enough to catch the eyes of many across the region. Her toughness and skill level for such a young player are can’t miss elements of her game – throw in her size and she is a legit prospect, #12 on our list.
Claudia Pifher (Buckeye Central) – Pifher – the sister of current University of Rio Grande women’s basketball player Courtney Pifher – quickly made a name for herself last winter. Claudia led the entire state of Ohio in 3-point shooting percentage and earned All-Ohio honors, while her team won 20+ games. She is a tough guard who plays the game the right way – clearly making a high percentage of her shots, competing defensively, getting her teammates involved offensively and winning more of the 50/50 balls than most players. Pifher comes in at #15 on this year’s list of players in the Class of 2022.
