Today, the PGH Ohio staff will continue to take a look at some of the top players ranked in the 2022 class.
Cate Schieber – pictured above; Photo Credit – The Newark Advocate (Granville) – Schieber, coming in at #16 on our PGH rankings for the Class of 2022, is a smooth guard with a beautiful pull-up jumper and an equally impressive catch-and-shoot game from the perimeter. She is a good passer and willing defender who is active – causing havoc all over the floor.
Jenna Smith (Garrettsville Garfield) – Jenna Smith is a versatile 4/5 with tremendous size and skill for such a young player. Our #18 ranked player in the Class of 2022, Smith is comfortable with her back to the basket, but also can run the offense through the high post as a passer and one-dribble playmaker. She is a good rebounder and post defender who still has a lot of potential to improve on both ends of the floor.
Bella Zirzow (Bristol) – At over 6’0 tall, Zirzow has already shown flashes of an all-around game. Whether it be rebounding the ball at a double-digit clip, handling the ball and initiating her team’s offense when needed or stepping out and knocking down 3’s – Bella is a nightmare for opponents and she is #20 in our rankings.
Aila Miller (Berlin Hiland) – It would be easy for Aila Miller to slip through the cracks. As a sophomore, she is one year younger than one of the top junior classes in the entire state of Ohio at Berlin Hiland. However, when given the opportunity, Miller – our #22 ranked player in the Class of 2021 – has shown that she can hold her own and is a more than capable option on both ends of the floor. She has a great nose for the basketball as a rebounder and can shoot consistently from the mid-range, as well. Her athleticism is an asset to any team, as she can pick up and pressure in the full-court and also switch on pick-and-rolls.
Mauria Stanley (Garfield Heights Trinity) – Stanley, who enters the list with a #25 ranking, is a super-athletic forward. Mauria is an outstanding rebounder on both ends of the floor, who also possesses the ability to alter shots and get a high number of deflections each time she takes the floor. She is at her best offensively in transition – when she refines her offensive toolbox, she is going to be even more of a nightmare.
