However, the girls listed here are among some of the players that impressed with their ability to play a role in making their makeshift teams successful in many different ways.
Mariam Traore – Williams Field
Traore did not have to touch the ball all that much to make an impact for her team. She set great screens on the on-ball defenders, rebounded at a good rate and utilized her size advantage to protect the rim if a fellow defender was beat off the dribble.
Sierra Mitchell – Peoria
Mitchell, like Traore, was often one of the biggest players on the floor during games. Her biggest impact came on the boards – specifically offense – as the team did not have to feed her the ball to score points. She could simply collect some missed jumpers like passes and put them back in the hoop.
Devyn O’Brien – Casteel
She was really unselfish with the ball (not to say anybody in particular was selfish) for an event where everybody is attempting to stand out. She made some great passes, and helped the team go from good shots to even better ones.
Mia Davis – Xavier
Davis was great on the floor, as evidenced by her selection to the 20-player all star game. But, I wanted to give her recognition for being the girl that led her team’s huddles, and was always talking on the floor. That’s a skill that not everybody has, but that makes a difference on the floor.
