Each of the top teams returns girls that can score, rebound and defend. In this article we will explore some of the scorers in the post and what they bring to their teams.
- Korrie Hopkins is a 5’11 2021 forward from Southwestern (Piasa). Korrie is strong and athletic which allows to be very effective in the post. She has shown great footwork that allows her to use multiple moves. Korrie has the fundamentals down and is excellent at maximizing her height in the paint.
- Sydney Bires is a 5’11 2021 forward from Gillespie. Sydney has great strength and does a nice job in the lane. She can finish well in traffic and gets great position. Sydney plays on a team that uses a big rotation of players, but is very effective when she plays.
- Megan Kern is a 6’1 2020 Post from Vandalia. Megan averaged 10 points per game last year for Vandalia. Coach McNary believes Megan has barely scratched the surface of her ability. She will be looked upon to score more and you have a big senior year.Megan finishes well and moves well for a post player. She will rim run on the break and get easy layups. Megan can hit consistently out to 15 feet and uses this to her benefit. She will be a tough match up for teams and could really break out this season if she has the right mind set.
- Megan Hallemann is a 6’4 2020 Post from Greenville. Megan is very long and can shoot over almost all of her competition. She has expanded her game to show some range to her game. Megan has good fundamentals and gets square on her shots. She is not as physically strong as she could be so working through contact can be a challenge. Megan does not lack heart or effort. She will continue to work to get offensive boards when she misses a shot. Megan does not give up without a fight.
- Nikya Harston is a 2021 5’10 forward from Hillsboro. Nikya is an excellent athlete. She finishes well and can really go get the ball on the offensive boards Nikya has started off and on for the Hiltoppers and brings the state tourney experience with her. She will need to step up her game this year to keep Hiillsboro in fight for a conference title.
- MacKenzy Mix is a 5’10 2020 forward from Gillespie. MacKenzy is a skilled player that can score inside and out for Coach Gray. She has played varsity minutes extensively since her sophomore year. MacKenzy uses her ability to play inside and out to create opportunities to beat smaller players in the lane.
The SCC, like any 2A conference has a mix of taller and under sized post players. Megan Hallemann will always be the tallest girl on the floor and have a target on her. If she can step up her game it will be hard to contain Greenville. The rest of the girls on this list have the ability to be a big force for their team. The conference title very well could be decided by which post has the bigger game in the head to head matchup of the top teams. It will be fun to watch.
