Continue ReadingEvery program is built on the reloading of their system with new talent every year. Seniors will lead the team and teach the younger kids the way. In this article I will give you a glimpse into the future of the conference. I will try to give you some names to watch that have not been a critical part of the program so far, but could be this year and into the future.
- Jillian Hamilton is a 5’9 2022 forward from Pana. Jillian began to make her mark in the last half of the year during her freshman campaign. She averaged 7 points and 4 rebounds per game. Jillian worked her way into the starting lineup after Christmas. She has shown the ability to score inside and out. Jillian hit 46% of her shots last year so she is very efficient. She will need to be a consistent scoring option this year.
- Jill Stayton is 5’8 2022 guard from Carlinville. Jill had a good freshman campaign showing the ability to hit shots from the outside. She will need to continue to expand her game and take the next step this year. Jill is athletic and can use that to get to the hoop this year. With the loss of their leading scoring the team will look to Jill as one of the option to replace those points.
- Madyson Hill is a 5’11 2021 guard from Vandalia. Madyson saw time off the bench last year and did a good job. This year she will step into a much more significant role. Madyson will be the primary ball handler and will look to take advantage of some mismatches on offense. She is capable of posting up the smaller guards and beating the bigger players off the dribble. Coach McNary will be looking for Madyson to play a big role in turning the program around from a tough season.
- Emily Reynolds is a 5’8 2020 wing from Hillsboro. Emily had an excellent summer for the Predators AAU team. She has proven to be an excellent defender, excellent shooter and a great leader. While this article usually highlights younger players Hillsboro loses all of their top players. Emily will need to step up and play a major part in the transition of the program.
- Natalie Iberg is 5’8 2021 wing from Greenville. Natalie was an important role player for Coach Dothager last year. She is extremely athletic and has the potential to be very good. Natalie will be a force on defense and excel in a fast paced game. With continued work on her skills Natalie could be a key part of another big year for the Lady Comets.
- Rachel Holthaus is a 5’6 2022 point guard from Pana. Rachel has the skill set of a true point guard. She handles the ball well and sees the floor well. Rachel can score the ball as well when the need is there. She may not start at the point from day one but I see her as the point guard of the future for Coach Storm. Rachel had a very good summer with the Predators playing up to 16u and even 17u at times.
There was an excellent class of 2019 that graduated in the SCC. All of the top teams will be looking to replace important starters. Within this group there are the players that can and will step up. It will be exciting to watch them shine bright this winter.
