The Turf Wars All-Star Weekend was a huge success. Three games of players from seniors to 8th graders performed for DMV bragging rights. The middle school game was probably the most interesting and exciting of them all. Here are the standouts.
Standout Players:
Kendall Walker – Guard – 2024 – Martin Luther King Middle
Kendall WalkerKendall dominated the middle school game and with her play and skill level there is little doubt she would have more than held her own in the high school game. She is a smooth point guard with great vision. She has the quickness to blow by defenders and her ability to finish after contact was at a high level. Her play earned her the MVP award on the black team and she got the notice of the coaches that were in attendance.
Jayla Tucker – Wing – 2024 – Earnest Just
Jayla TuckerJayla stood out from the time she stepped on the court as she knocked down shot after shot in shoot arounds and was touted before the game even started as the best shooter in the building by one of the evaluators on hand. She comes from a long basketball pedigree having a father that has played professional and a sister currently playing division one basketball. Jayla has the length and skill to step in a contribute immediately on any high school team.
Amaya Durrett – 2024 – Walker Mill
Amaya DurrettThe lefty, Amaya attacked the basket strong and consistently carried the white team scoring basket after basket from everywhere on the court out to beyond the arc. She took her teams Most Valuable Player award with a victory and game high 25 points. She is another player that is set to make an impact on her high school team.
Jamia Carter – 2024 -CMIT South
Jamia CarterJamia carries a big solid frame that give defenders problems as she can overpower most of them. She moves well and is surprisingly nimble and has a good handle. She attacked the basket well and finished nicely in transition.
Destinee Delado – 2024 – Poole
Destinee DelgadoDestinee is long and athletic and at close to 5’10” she was one of the taller players on the court. She has all the physical tools to be solid in high school and beyond. How much her skills refine will dictate how far she goes but the sky is the limit on her potential.
Sarah Conteh – 2024 – Imagine School
Sarah ContehSarah was another in a list of talented guards that looked to get to the rim and finish. She is athletic and had some nice high level moves during the day. She was one of the better defenders on the floor which is what stood out the most about her game.
